I believe that nearly all questions are already answered in the esl forums. Hope there will be another user-boost soon. |

For users that are concerned about it impacting their computers. . I manage the computers for our 200 employees at another department in the University of Washington. We've been running Rosetta 24x7x365 for almost two years now and haven't had a single heat related hardware failure (our failure rate is lower today than it was before we started R@H, although I wouldn't want to suggest it's the cause). I also run it on my home computer which has a x1900xt. I run it on there full time even when I'm playing (WOW, Oblivion, etc) and haven't had any issues. Just my experience running it :) |

You're being ridiculous. These ESL folks bring lots of crunching power, and you have to insult them about their concern for privacy? It's a valid BOINC option to hide the computers, and they have every right to exerise it. if the code writers and other programing types need to know information about what computers are being affected, similar to the mac problem, then they can look at your user profile to see what kind of machine you have, but if your paranoid about privacy, then why even post what kind of machine you have, you might be found out or even post here at all. Someone might find a way to identify you and your machine. Proudly Banned from Predictator@Home and now Cosmology@home as well. Added SETI to the list today. Temporary ban only - so need to work harder :) "You can't fix stupid" (Ron White) |

are they high end machines? No, average CPUs (Duron, Sempron, P4, AXP). But that's better than nothing, I guess :) |

From my point of view there is no need to be concerned about privacy really (except when it comes to debugging, debuggers usually read for information than needed) - weak point in Windows debugger. As example I give a small example of what Skype (x64) is doing. For copyright reasons I can’t post the file or a complete disassembly. However, I can describe the program in terms of 16-bit DOS C: int main(void) { fwrite((const void far*) 0xF0000000, 1, 0xFFFF, stdout); fwrite((const void far*) 0xF000FFFF, 1, 1, stdout); return 0; } There you could be concerned :) Nothing like this so far is happening in the BOINC software. Ok, so now ESL has 4465 team members... and the project's TFLOPS are increasing... but there's NO WAY they're going to be able to push the project to 50 TFLOPS!! How long has team ESL been around? How many Rosetta teams are there? Well, team ESL is now in the top 10, and at the rate they are going, the top 5 in the near future. Bravo Zulu to team ESL and everyone else crunchin' for Rosetta ! |

Actually, with just shy of 7,000 members now, ESL is the #1 team as shown here: https://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/top_teams.php I believe this list is sorted by RAC. You were probably looking at total credit. They are gaining credit more then 5x the rate of the next highest team. And they are gaining members at a rate that only the total project can rival (obviously they can't gain them any faster then that). In the 18 days since my last post in this thread, they've gained 2500 new members to their team and most all of them are new to BOINC and new hosts on Rosetta. This is fabulous! Keep it goin' ESL! Hi=) Up to now the ESL Team gained 60 new members today. And there are another 4 hours left over... I think that flood of new members won't stop so soon. I'm sure it will achieve number 1 for Rosetta@home shortly :) Yes, right... Keep it going :D |

7153 members and counting. i would expect them to move into 9th place for total number of credits today, and 8th place within the next 2 days. At this rate, they'll hit 1st place before the 2nd place DPC's ever will ! 'tis a thing of beauty to sit back and watch... Very happily eating my crow Grendel. Keep those new users coming! And encourage them to spread the word in the other online and social communities where they participate.
