First of all, thanks to this website for providing a good use for all the wasted computing cycles out there...

To the problem:
The screensaver will not run. The BOINC manager runs, it shows 2 items waiting to be computed. Internet conncetion is not a problem, BOINC is selected as screensaver in XP. The weirdest part is that when one of the items is highlighted in the BOINC manager, the "show Graphics" selection will not highlight as it did before. I recently installed CIV 4 and the internet tool on that game. After having these problems I uninstalled both of these. I also made the mistake of updating my video driver. I have also adjusted the video refresh rate in windows in an attempt to get BOINC to run again.

Any ideas? Thanks for your help!

You will only see the "Show Graphics" button available while the task is actually in a "running" status. Tasks that are waiting for BOINC to schedule them cannot be viewed in the graphic.

I guess that is just a indication of the problem then...The screensaver won't run, because it's not computing the work unit.
The computer usually runs two items or work units at a time. But it won't run them. I have not found the way to get it to start again. Pretty dumb on my part, but there you go.

Please copy the last few messages from the messages tab and let us see them.

On the Projects tab, do you have multiple projects? What is the status shown for Rosetta?

After my last post I ran the CPU benchmarks in BOINC to see if the computations would restart after being suspended for the tests. They didn't start again. The recent messages would not cut and paste, but they relate only to my requests for update, and the server not taking ant results because nothing has been completed. They don't seem to relate to the problem.

Thanks!

Well, here are some of the messages requested from an earlier reply.
the other messagesd looked like routine checking of the server and stuff.
I am only running Rosetta. In the p[rojects tab it lists just Rosetta, 150(100%) for resources, and under status, nothing.

Thanks!

I was going to delete the two work units to try again, but the info that opened up when I started to do that showed that they were both downloading. On the transfer page all the transfers show 0.00 kps. So I guess the work units are there in name only. Yep, OK. Yes the server has been having some problems today. You can see the downloads that need to occur in your transfers tab. Nothing seems to be downloading the past 15hrs or so. So, it's not you! Once the servers come back online, BOINC will complete those downloads and then things will make sense again.

What happend is that you complete all the work you had, and now are unable to download more.

This is a VERY rare occurence for Rosetta. But you can help mitigate such problems if you increase your setting for "connect to network about every ... days". This in your General Preferences. It will basically try to keep enough work on hand to keep you busy for that period of time. It's a way to assure your machine has something to work on, even if the servers happen to be down.

The default is .1 days (i.e. 2.4hrs). If you increase it to 1.0 days, then you can assure you have work to do, even during a server outage like this. The change takes effect once you update to the project. Or, BOINC will update it when it makes it's next request for work.

Ok. Thanks! I'll adjust that setting, maybe even two 2 days. My work seems to be turned in with enough time to spare.

Thanks for another way to contribute to a great cause!
