Rosetta, of the seven different programs BOINC is running, does not download new work units to start either after current work units have been completed and reported. Nor does the program download new work units to start on just prior to the current work unit completing its task. Is there a problem, a solution, or is it something that can be worked on by Rosetta staff for correction in the future?

What is your "Connect to network about every" setting in General preferences?

It had been set to make a connection every .1 days. I've gone back and read other posts which seemed to suggest increasing the connection time to get more work, (I did so)but I would expect doing that will only serve to lengthen time between connections; not solve the problem. With it having been set so frequently before, I would have expected it to connect and download as the others do; ie: just before they run out of work, they've connected and downloaded the next work unit to be done. It frequently goes eight or ten hours before connecting and downloading Rosetta. Since I posted the inquiry, it just downloaded work about a half hour ago.

There have been instances of when seven of the eight programs running will exhaust work units and nothing new downloads until it had run out of work entirely for single program running in BOINC and twice in the past year when the only thing that would get the program to take on new work was to detach from everything, delete BOINC and reinstall from scratch. However, deleting the old BOINC program and installing the most current version appears to have stopped the problem of no work for anything whatsoever.

So, my inquiry at present: Are others frequently experiencing slow downloads from Rosetta (6 - 12 hrs. of nothing at all before new work arrives) for no obvious reason such as a comment noted in the 'message' section of BOINC that there is work but that it exceeds memory available, or that there is no work to be obtained.

If you are seeing your client request work, but none is downloaded, and the message says there was work, but your machine doesn't have enough memory, then that is the topic discussed at length here and here. In short, things should have improved now, and any such message should be pretty rare.

If your machine is not requesting xxxx seconds of new work when it connects to Rosetta, or is just NOT connecting to Rosetta, then this requires an explaination of how the BOINC scheduler works. With that many projects, your BOINC scheduler has it's "hands full" trying to figure out how to schedule your machine's time. This topic is discussed further here in this QA item.

I think between these three references, your questions should be addressed. But if not, please post questions to one of those existing threads, or a new one in the Number Crunching message board.

The download servers have been down for about 12hrs here. I'm sure they will resolve the problem shortly.

ok. I guess I am just confused then because the server status page shows everything is running and I am getting nothing.

ok just found the manual command to force it to download more work and that seems to have worked
