Hi Phickus, good to see you here!

This may not be the loudest forum, but we're doing a lot of crunching and people are always on hand to give advice and answer questions about the project.

Maybe we'll have to resort to old school pure ascii emoticons :O

Maybe we can hotlink a few emoticons from Grid.org or Fad. :-)

Nice to see you, Kentucky gal. On break from school, marshal2k, or doing research? Did you see this image?

Images are available here.

FaDBeens is the one :)
Because beens means better dreams! (schemes?)

ermm or

Beens means oily machines!

or Beens means vurld domination!
Hnya hnya hnya glurk.
etc!
I must change my setup as I am running out of jobs all the time.
Will try this 3 day thingumy as suggested! Seems a shame to switch stuff on
and have nothing to show for it the next day
Been there done that?

Vester - I was just taking a bit of time out to check the forum and found good news with the algorithm update happening today (my time, I think). I saw that poster and it made me chuckle. I'm going to start encouraging my hall mates to run R@H.

Gang, if we keep hanging around here a while, there will be some experienced members to provide support...us. Note that they only went gold in October, so it is a lot like Find-a-Drug was in the beginning...only THINK knew how everything worked. Here, there are two kinds of problems: BOINC and Rosetta. I don't know if Rosetta has any BOINC gurus, but it would be helpful if they did.

I've never run BOINC before, and I'm not a programmer, but I'm going to master this thing. With or without help. :D

There have been some spam posts in our serious topics. Please note the rating features at the bottom of each post's panel. Give spammers and detractors a negative often enough and their posts disappear. Poof!
Hi Vester!! I'm so glad to know you're here! I'm running Rosesta for a Linux group with Winderz and now I know someone I can ask for Windows help!
Come BOINC with me!

Hi, surrealchereal. I've not been on the message boards the way I like to do during the past week. I built one computer from two old ones and rescued two laptops with reformats during the past four days. I got obsessive and stayed up all night twice. If you do Linux, you probably won't have any Windows questions. ;-)

Ok seems to be running now on 1 computer the 1 thing i will add to all this is with dial-up service it took about 2 hours of TOTAL download time for program and job to download. Now if every job is gona take that long its gona be very demamnding for dial-up or will the downloads be smaller from here on it ?? guess we'll just have to wait and see.

truckpuller wrote:

Just how big are these job downloads?? mines at 12 MB disk space now and still downloading.

IME, you get a monster download the first time, and after that it's pretty small. I can only assume that the initial D/L is support files used for all WU's.

Since this message board isn't arranged in a manner familiar to me, I am going to post this one in hopes that Tank visits the Cafe Rosetta.

This is the AMD XP 2500+ at 1.958 GHz running an Antec Solutions Plus heatsink/fan (cheap). I used 1500 grit emory cloth (wet) and Arctic Silver. It took about a month of running to get down to 44 C from the initial ~51 C (first hour). Room temp is 25.55 C (78 F).

Vester, running your AMD's even up to +- 60C isn't doing any damage.

I have my xp-m 2600+ clocking 2.5Ghz running at 56 at full load.

All of my AMD systems are overclocked and they seldom will be seen anywhere lower than 46C.
