Until the 26th of october I got R@H WU's, but since then I wont get any more...

I paused all the other projects, but it still says:

But I am requesting new work! Is there a limit of how many wu's one can get? I got only 1700 credits within 2 to 3 weeks, dont know how many WU's i finished in that time (the results page wont tell me either - it only shows 4 unfinished wu's!?!?)

Greetings, Steffen

Hi Steffen,

do you have a file called rosetta_5.36_windows_intelx86.exe in your projectsboinc.bakerlab.org_rosetta folder? If not, you might try to download it manually to that folder from here. Sometimes the download is a little "obstinate" about not starting ever.

It was released on Oct 24th, so that might be your problem. If that is not what keeps your PC from getting work, ask again.

Regards,

Christoph

Chances are boinc is just balancing the projects out. With that many project you will not always get tasks from all projects. You need to delete all the other Projects task to get more (an put don't get new tasks on the projects).

Here are some comments about how BOINC schedules things. I suspect that BOINC was neglecting some of your other projects for a while, and now is trying to make up that lost time to them... but you've suspended them, so it can't follow the plan it made. And it may hesitate to download more work, because it may already be concerned that you've got too much to do.

Climate is often an extreme that throws things. Be sure that your resource share to the climate project is sufficient to meet the deadline. And "sufficient" includes BOINC's % of time running on that machine and % of hours in the day the machine is powered on, and then the % resource share devoted to climate.

If you just release everything and let it run. BOINC will balance out the debts between the projects and eventually come back to Rosetta. If you'd like to run Rosetta MORE... just increase the resource share in your Rosetta proferences.

Hey, back again, had some serious trouble with my computer... Fixed now...

Thanks for your answers!

I read the FAQ and I guess its really that simple: My computer is overcommited. With nine projects running on each of my two hosts, it obivisouly not a good idea to force certain project to work or to suspend for a while. Maybe I really should let BOINC manage these things...

Will see then BOINC downloads the next Rosetta WU!

PS: And I will cancel CPDN, The deadline is in 350 days, it calculates appr. 0,160% per day (0,160 times 350 makes 56 Percent). Wont make it anyway, and I dont want to increase its share...

PPS: Downloaded the rosetta_5.36_windows_intelx86.exe, theres a rosetta_5.32_windows_intelx86.exe in the rosetta folder, should I delete the older one?

BOINC will take care of it for you. You probably still have a 5.32 work unit left? Or just recently reported one? I haven't watched carefully on a version change to see when exactly BOINC removes it.

The current version is now 5.40, so you may see 3 on your machine at once. This is a short term situation. BOINC will removed unneeded Rosetta versions. BOINC will also download the 5.40 version for you once it requests a WU for that version. The "Beyond Newbie QA" describes how you could download it in advance if you want to schedule your internet connect time.

Yes, with that many projects BOINC basically just runs one per day. But it isn't downloading more work because it realizes that the climate WU won't finish in time, so it wants to get some crunch time in to it (which sometimes makes the estimated time remaining lower too).

It is a hard task for BOINC to manage projects with 1 year deadlines, and others with 1 day deadlines.

If you have two PCs, what I'd suggest is setting them up as different locations, for example "work" and "home". Then I'd mark half of the projects for no new work, and on the other PC I'd mark the OTHER half of the projects for no new work. Then once those projects complete and report all of their WUs, I'd detach from the project. This way each PC will have half as many projects to keep straight, yet you're still contributing about the same computing power to the projects as you were before (10% of 1 PC rather then 5% of each of the two for example).
