mates, the results of rosseta project are posted in a public database? We make much of the raw data available from the home page shortly after it is generated, and the remainder all becomes public after we have processed and analyzed it. The cumulative raw data is too big for any reasonable database, we only save the lowest energy predictions and designs. The predictions get published, and the designs get synthesized and tested and the results published (a designed potential HIV vaccine or anti Malaria enzyme are far more interesting after they have been experimentally validated!). |

As I understand it, David please correct me if I am wrong, as well as the predicted structures another important "result" from this project is the development of new algorithms for predicting structures. How are these new algorithms published / disemminated? I know that they are shared with others as another BOINC project is using a previous version of Rosetta in connection with AIDS research. Hi River, you are absolutely right. in the prediction area we are mostly focussing on developing and testing new algorithms (hence the complicated work unit names). all of the new developments are made public when we release new versions of Rosetta, and the significant advances are described in research papers which are also publicly available (all of our papers for example are freely available from my lab home page). we encourage other scientists to use Rosetta, and as you point out we give the WCG the latest version of rosetta when they are ready for updates. in the design calculations, as I pointed out below, the actual results of the calculations are of interest as they are potential therapeutics. The prediction methods keep getting better. Rhiju and I tested some new ideas on making the search more efficient at the early stages, and the improvements in generating low energy low rmsd structures are quite dramatic! |

Not to get off-topic, but I was wondering if you have plotted the improvements in predictions (if that is possible to do with objective criteria). I'm mostly curious to know if you are progressing in a mostly linear fashion or if the progression is exponential and the accuracy will increase explosively with time. I'm not a scientist, so maybe this doesn't apply here... I guess I've just been reading to much Ray Kurzweil :) |

That wasn't my question. I mean, are this results for public domine or are they from the University, the Government or pharmaceutical labs? Could you tell me who is going to have the property rights of those experiments? I'm looking forward to hearing from you. Juan. |
