ARGH!!!! I just channeled a moderator!!!!

One must be careful with those voodoo dolls Jose :) ...is that why I felt dizzy a while ago? :)

I think the moderator pledge was not to interfere with the "off-topic" deletions and other things we're accused of. ...not that we wouldn't post at all.

I have always wondered why isn't this Angus'es profile image?

FYI: This is the new set of rules the anonymous moderators will be asked to enforce:

1. Law of Mechanical Repair: After your hands become coated with grease or butter, your nose will begin to itch.

2. Law of the Workshop: Any tool, when dropped, will roll to the least accessible corner.

3. Law of Probability: The probability of being watched is directly proportional to the stupidity of your act.

4. Law of the Telephone: When you dial a wrong number, you never get a busy signal.

5. Law of the Alibi: If you tell the boss you were late for work because you had a flat tire, the very next morning you WILL have a flat tire.

6. Law of Variation: If you change lines (or traffic lanes), without fail, the one you were just in will start to move faster than the one you are in now.

7. Law of Bath Theorem: When the body is fully immersed in comfortably warm water, the phone will ring.

8. Law of Close Encounters: The probability of meeting someone you know increases when you are with someone you do not want to be seen with.

9. Law of Results: When you try to prove to someone that something doesn't work, it will.

10. Law of Biomechanics: The severity of the itch is inversely proportional to the length of your reach.

11. Law of the Theater: At any event, the people whose seats are farthest from the aisle arrive last, have to go to the bathroom most often, and usually choose to leave just before the end of the play or movie.

12. Law of Coffee time. As soon as you sit down with a cup of hot coffee, your boss will ask you to do something that will take you just long enough for your coffee to get cool.

13. Murphy's Law of the Locker: If there are only two people in the locker room, they will have adjacent lockers.

14. Law of Dirty Carpets: The chance of an open-faced peanut & jelly sandwich landing face down on the carpet are directly related to it's newness, color, and cost.

15. Law of Universal Location: No matter where you go, there you are.

16. Law of Logical Argument: Anything is possible if you don't know what you are talking about.

17. Brown's Law: If the shoe fits, it's either ugly or expensive.

18. Oliver's Law: A closed mouth gathers no feet.

19. Wilson't Law: As soon as you find a product that you really like, they will stop making it.

20. John's Law: The moment you sit on the john (WC or loo for you Europeans) the front doorbell will ring.

RE: Making Jose a moderator... let's do that. Jose, identify the posts in your thread here which require deletion for taunting others, name calling, and being off-topic. There's 70 posts in here. And only about 2 or 3 ideas express about annonymous moderators.

In fact, if you were faced with the realization that this thread has degraded into nothing on-topic anymore... and had to pick the posts that represent the topic and start a new thread... and move them one at a time, which message IDs would you preserve?

[edit] You, as moderator, have no Ban feature. You can only delete, move or manually copy content in to a new post that you create yourself.

It is ironic that the first thing you wanted to do as moderator was to ban certain posters.

If I were a moderator, I would ban moderators from posting.

Tempting but not practical nor fair.

The issue when they post is their anonymity.

Mod.De is Parsec

Mod.Canada is Michael

Mod.Sense is Feet1st

Mod.Tymbrimi is Tralala <----I could have sworn this was someone else but I`ll go with FC that he is a mod. At least until I get into conspiracy mode ! I was thinking along the lines of the only victim of my moderation in our forum.

Well: I have it from one of the moderators that tralala is not a moderator. I don't want to think that moderator (perish the thought ) lied to me. I would be severely disappointed if he did.

But one think I have noticed is that Carl has not taken the pledge.

As I have some insider information I'd like to comment on that. IIRC correctly you know from a mod that Mod.Tymbrini is neither tralala nor MattDavis. That is correct, but that does not say much about tralala being a mod or not. ;-)

@carl.h

From your list only one name is correct but it's attributed to the wrong mod. So now it's gonna really easy isn't it?

How can Mod.Canada NOT be Michael? Michael's profile is a virtual copy of the bio posted by D. Baker

Evidently the Mod.Canada guess was 100% correct - Michael removed his giveaway profile. Too bad it's saved elsewhere for posterity :)

There is a "T" that may have sneaked under the radar : Tony Strong (mmciastro) . He refuses to take the pledge ( OK he is coy about taking the pledge). And he is liked by the Administration.

And he is crazy enough to take on such a thankless job. :)

Yes I am just busy enough to not go crazy. Today I'm welding/grinding/sanding the forms I need to make the caps for my brick columns (hence my previous comments about going back to being a brick mason).

Yikes, the "Y" word ("Yard") :) Beautiful brickwork Tony.
...and I can relate on the yard. I finally have it down to just the trunk of the large oak that fell in this storm.

Wow. I copied the second pic to my desktop to take a closer look and then couldn't see where it went. The icon/preview blended in perfectly with my background (the inside of the coliseum). Sounds like a compliment to me.

After watching what a putative moderator did in a thread and the nasty effect of a moderator's intervention in the same thread [that finally got deleted ( alas after the damage was done); now more than ever:

1- No anonymous moderators
2- No annonymous moderating actions: If moderated a public record of who moderated and why he moderated, should be kept in place of the affected posts and/or threads.
3- An ombudsman , to protect posters from abuses by moderators : real or perceived ( and the perception is being more damming ) is needed.
This and no other is the root from which a Tyrant springs; when he first appears he is a protector.”

I did post a reply in the thread which has just been deleted regarding this, so I apologise for re-posting:

At WCG about a year ago there was much debate about the neutrality of Mods and the fact they had seperate anonymous Mod names to their normal team username after several incidents of flaming and resulting moderation which appeared biased.

Allegatations flew about where Mods loyalties lay, as no-one really knew which team they were from etc, and to be honest some was very unfair to the Mods - but the anonymity fuelled the suspicions.

After much debate, the powers that be decided to remove the anonymity from the Mods, and they then used their normal team usernames together with the title of 'Community Advisors'.

Also any 'mod' editing/deleting had to leave a marker in the post/thread indicating who did it and the reason why.

This system was then overseen by the overall powers that be who had no team affiliation.

It was resisted by some Mods and their relevant team supporters at the time, but as a result it has meant there have been very few flaming instances and virtually no allegations of mod bias since - which has made for a much more pleasant community forum experience - even the 'Community Advisors' who at first baulked at the idea have now openly said how much better it is both for them and the forum as a whole.

Maybe something like this could be implemented over here?
