Message 27576 - Posted: 19 Sep 2006, 17:55:50 UTC - in response to Message 27574.

P.S. I`m glad you posted that not me...else it`d be gone in a Parsec...;-)

Nothing to do with who posts it. Just a question of how long before it is found.

...suffice it to say Fluffy has also received EMail notifications on moderator actions. Since the EMail shows you your deleted message, and the entire message was quoted, I have deleted it.

Carl, might I suggest we try another test? Change your profile to EMail to somewhere else, then we'll do another post and delete with msg test.

I thought I had removed that part thought I left just my comment and the bits of from who explanation etc...
anyways, Have the moderators asked the admins to add features to the message board, like the ability to edit single posts (you could have just removed the offending part like pretty much any half decent forum software allows you to).

Ah bugger it..

The BOINC package does not allow moderators to edit posts. For some reason the BOINC developer have made clear that they won't change this, so there is little hope that this will be possible in future.

And that's a good thing. That way there is no way the original poster's words can be changed to suit someone's idea of Political Correctness. The arguement never comes up of "Someone changed my post!"

Better just let them stand, unless they are outrageously offensive.

I think a "parsec" is a astronomical (in both senses of the word) unit of distance,

Really and there`s me thinking something entirely different

I thought a parsec was a measure of speed ! ie., how quickly things can disappear...especially around here

Enigmatic ? Don`t worry we`re getting there, things will be revealed to you shortly !

That time is measured in nano-seconds

Carl I just deleted your sample post, and entered a message which is to trigger an EMail to your revised EMail address.

edit: OK, now, if you would, try creating a new hotmail addy and we'll do it again.

It`s into my main email so we`ll see, I note I did get a mail from Boinc.Baker telling me of the change. Still wondering why they`re not getting through to my hotmail account though.

Edit : Just checked my mail and it`s in. So must be a hotmail peculiarity, I know some servers do like like hotmail.

Bravo, Jose! Solid, grounded arguments. You even include person specific, constructive criticism without resorting to shouting (typing loudly) insults.

Whether I agree or disagree on each point, you encourage me to think and respond rather than to retaliate.

You have given us all something to aspire to here.

Movieman:
On online games that I've belonged to - having a moderator reveal their mortal's identity was reason for their suspension. Public guessing was not something that was allowed on their forums.

[deleted response to your deleted paragraph]
"That person is exactly who I said he was. I wasn't making a guess.
People are not as cloaked as they think they are."

Your detective skills suck. <rolls eyes>
.. and your claiming you had conclusive proof that my mortal account is someone other than me - kinda bugs me, too. <smile>

I've been part of the supervisory staff on an online game before. We were reminded to treat people as individuals. The groups or teams they belonged with did not define them. Granted, it was hard to keep in mind when dealing with a whole team of jerks that caused problems. Keeping my past experience in mind, if I judge you, it's for your actions and words - not your team's. And I'm pretty good at not judging your team because of your actions and words.

Dang.. responding to a now empty post makes this look silly. <smile>

5 mins after I posted that I found out I'd switched two names so i deleted the post..Knowing that, it now makes a bit more sense to you..agreed?
As to you judging me or not, doesn't bother me at all.
Why would I care what someone who hides behind a ficticous name cares?
They are non people.
All of the Mods could be Baker or Kim incognito for all we know
( They aren't of course since we do know who the mods are)
I post from anger at seeing what are supposedly highly intelligent individuals mess up the best project out there by caving into to a few individuals who spent more computer cycles complaining than they did crunching the project.
Add to that the lack of backbone of the people in charge to put a stop to it and you can well understand my anger.
Here is is weeks later, the arguments are still going on and the developers STILL haven't come and answered anything.
I can see anyone missing a point but what do they need, a building to fall on them to tell them it's time to be seen and time to act?
If anything, this proves that intelligence and common sense don't necessarily go hand in hand..

But what would you do with a fine post where in the end an insult is placed, such as: "Crawl back in your hole"? I would like to snip this insult with an edit-tag and explanation, but let the post stay. Now I delete the whole post and explain to the poster why and ask him to repost it without the insult. But most either don't receive the email explanations or don't read it and post back with "Why was my post deleted?".

"Crawl back in your hole"?

I think you`ll find that was mine...in reply to an equally defamatory post by <edit>.....

I would never ask why such a post was deleted, the fact you reproduce shows the words are not strong, nevertheless it was aimed as an insult, to which I understand deletion.

How would you have reacted if I would have edited your post and deleted the last line with an edit-message, such as: "please no insults"?

Mod.De that would have been no problem, it wouldn`t be a first and I do understand the principals of moderation even be the fact I lose my temper at times.

You`ll find the only time I have argued with you, re moderation, on post`s was a cultural difference of opinion on a specific word where it meant something entirely different to you than to me.

I am human, I do get angry at times when I`m baited and I do bite because of my passion for fair play and justice. I also run forums so am able to see that moderation is a necessity, I also understand that the posters are human and do get tempered...I`m glad they do, it shows passion and caring !

Mod.De = A little young but with a sense of fair play, is passionate but fair as his knowledge allows. Does allow questioning on his reasoning.

Mod.Sense = Now this is the one that everyone thought would be very bias, howether has not come across as such and is the most likely to give a fair hearing.

Mod.Tymbrimi = Has one view and only one, his own. Is smug, malicious and devious. Will find clever little way`s of putting obstacles in the way of reasoned questioning. He is clever and can pull the wool over authorities eyes when allowed. If he knew himself and what he is, he would never allow himself to be in the position he is today. This howether is a game to him where he can play with people and their feelings which he enjoys. He gains the most enjoyment from targeting and destroying a particular character, which he will do from time to time.

Looks like we need to get Mod.Canada out in the limelight a bit more often, so all 4 Muskateers can be represented and the list can be complete!

Ah my friend Sense: the problem is that the person in question is leaving no doubts.

This post is so vague and makes no reference to whom or what is leaving no doubts that it cannnot be considered offensive.
