carl.h: Please read this post of yours and the other posts and originated threads: you have become a lighting rod because you have forced the attention upon you by the way your interfere on things and posts you don't understand as per your own admition. With all due respect, if you don't understand something, don't interfere with those who do. ask for clarification before becoming an agent for anger. |

My opinion on this topic: Annonymous or not, moderators should not have two accounts. Someone had a good analogy earlier in this thread: You *can't* be referee and player in the same game. No one can ever be sure you are really acting in a fair and unbiased manner....even if you do! So if you want to moderate, then great! Be a moderator. But that should mean giving up posting under your private acount for the duration. It also has the advantage of making the issue of anonymity moot. Reno, NV Team: SETI.USA |

carl.h: When someone goes through that much trouble to get away from us, disappears for 3 weeks to a month at a time, only to return and require moderation for their short stay and disappears again to restart the cycle.. they might have some purpose in mind. I assumed that there is something you want to get across to the Rosetta Team that is not being conveyed at the present. If responding to someone that claims that they won't stop when requested, and that they'll simply return after being banned - asking for a diplomat seemed appropriate. If you find the request belittling, then I apologize. Rosetta Moderator: Mod.Tymbrimi ROSETTA@home FAQ Moderator Contact |

carl.h: I read through this whole thread and everything seemed to drift in and out but actually resolved some issues even if some were technically off topic. That was until someone started deleting posts. And at the end it seemed all was well then Mod.Tymbrimi seemed to jump in from nowhere and try to start things up again. I think everyone should read all the posts before jumping in to any conversation because most issues will have been resolved already. Mods, Most issues will resolve themselves without interference if given the chance. Issue warnings without deleting posts. You can state that all posts after XXX post will be deleted even if you can not actually close a topic if it gets too unruly. |

Mod Tymbrimi, don`t start hiding behind the Rosetta team now. You and I have history. This isn`t the first time you`ve belittled people and you`ve upset many good people from across the world. It won`t be the last if I let you get away with it. It`s not your fault I know, psychopathy isn`t. If they in their wisdom let you hide behind them after today`s obvious episodes more fool them. I know who and what you are and this my friend is neutral ground with no mutual friend to hide behind this time ! But you didn`t say to anyone it was personal did you...you snake! Not all Czech`s bounce but I`d like to try with Barbar ;-) Make no mistake This IS the TEDDIES TEAM. |

mmciastro and Jose, now I'm curious what your solutions are. I have slight doubts that they are identical though. ;-) The only time that we will possibly agree..I can see my friend Jose hitting the delete button so hard that he dents the keyboard!<BG? You gentleman want to settle all this? Get Dr. Baker out here, have him read at least some of whats been said and then take off the lab coat, remember what it was like to actually talk with people without picking the words a week in advance and say loud and clear: I screwed up! I didn't understand you bunch of wacko dedicated crunchers and the set of principles you live by" Dr. Baker: You aren't ever going to have me back on this project. You and I just went to far for either one of us to ever trust the other BUT you could go a long way to repairing the nightmare thats been created here by just opening your mouth and discussing it with these people. I don't care how smart you are or how many PHD's from how many universities, come and be a human being and straighten this out. With few exceptions the people that support you are NOT PHD's but people who talk in simple and straight language and that is what they have needed to hear for weeks from you. To David Kim: We aren't all stupid so stop thinking that we are. I might just possibly be able to beat you in a game of chess.<BG> The overall major mistake that was made in this place was the thinking that the people that support you aren't up to your intelectual level. Cripes, My IQ is in the 150 range. I'm not a genius but I can damned well understand just about any subject matter you'd care to discuss. I might have a hot temper but that doesn't negate intellect and how you treated (us) made a great deal of people feel as if you thought we were intellectually inferior to you when the God's truth is that all we wanted was to help you. I wish to hell that I'd been able to get that through your head months ago. If you want your project to do well long term, talk to all of these people as if they are your equals and talk straight. That's the cheapest and best advice that your ever going to get.. And one other thing: No anonymous moderators.. |

This email is sent to inform you that one of your posts in the forum has been affected by moderation in Rosetta@home: There is nothing "Off-Topic" about this. The topic IS "No annonymous moderators". This post was exactly on topic. And now we have another imaginary, unposted, unkown rule crop up. It appears that we're not allowed to speculate on the identity of the anony-mods. And apparently XS VS was correct, and "hit the jackpot", or "pinned the tail on the donkey", or whatever party game you prefer :) Nemesis n. Movieman: On online games that I've belonged to - having a moderator reveal their mortal's identity was reason for their suspension. Public guessing was not something that was allowed on their forums. [deleted response to your deleted paragraph] "That person is exactly who I said he was. I wasn't making a guess. People are not as cloaked as they think they are." Your detective skills suck. <rolls eyes> .. and your claiming you had conclusive proof that my mortal account is someone other than me - kinda bugs me, too. <smile> I've been part of the supervisory staff on an online game before. We were reminded to treat people as individuals. The groups or teams they belonged with did not define them. Granted, it was hard to keep in mind when dealing with a whole team of jerks that caused problems. Keeping my past experience in mind, if I judge you, it's for your actions and words - not your team's. And I'm pretty good at not judging your team because of your actions and words. Dang.. responding to a now empty post makes this look silly. <smile> Rosetta Moderator: Mod.Tymbrimi ROSETTA@home FAQ Moderator Contact |

This thread as well as others are a treasure-chest for psycho-analysis... |

You best include Mod.T in that, cos I`m not sure he knows what he is or his deliberate intentions. You see the way from his last post he squeezes in the insults, that he`ll later say was complete innocence and not aimed at the poster he was replying too. He`s a small town boy so perhaps gets a bit lonely where he is, could be something to do with it. Not all Czech`s bounce but I`d like to try with Barbar ;-) Make no mistake This IS the TEDDIES TEAM. |

This thread as well as others are a treasure-chest for psycho-analysis... Probably, but I rather prefer to think of them as another lode for people that do research on the use of language. |

Okies, the time to comment on the Moderators participation in this thread has come. This is very on topic as this thread intended to show why annonymous moderators should be eliminated. 1- DE: I think that if there is a moderator that has gained a lot of respect from me, it has to be DE. It is known by all , that I have complained against him with the abandon of a wild banshee. I caught him in a violation of one of the moderating rules he is supposed to apply and held his feet to the fire in a way even Hernan Cortes would have been proud (Obscure historical reference to make people think and use their Google or other Search engine buttons :) ). That said: in his participation in this thread he made a very important point and one that should be understood and be crystal clear to all the participants in this or any forums: Moderators are human being not machines: they can be passionate and yes they do have opinions and yes they react in human ways and can become inpatient and yes a tad intolerant of opposing views. So to expect from them machine -like impartiality or behavior is unfair , worst it is not natural . So, before one passes judgment on the moderators , one should remember their humanness and strive to be fair. This brings out the point: Participants are human too. And the same respect and the same considerations the moderators ask from us, the participants , they should grant us . This brings me to something that has to be said. DE by your apology ( Yes I know it was hard or as you said : "Your dead cold hands") you have shown class. You have gained my respect. I want to add something else: I want to apologize for the angry/nasty comments I made about you. Yes this human being is also passionate and has in times done or said some intemperate things. For that I apologize 2- Sense participation was priceless. With his theoretical challenge , he made clear moderating is not as easy as it seems. He got a tad sensitive at the end but even that reinforced some of the points that he tried to made and, at least in my case I understand and appreciate. Yes, I can see and understand the moderator's position. I hope they understand , the other side of the coin. 3- Ah Mod T. participation was the best: If there is a case on which to base the argument on the need for non anonymous moderators it has been his participation in this and other threads. Enough said about Mod. T for now 4- Ah me, Mod Jose :) : I think I made a point by the way I "moderated": although of-topic comments can lead to meandering threads , they make for human threads. I can see the need for order but, I will argue that a too rigid interpretation of the topicality of a thread rules is annoying and breeds negative reactions towards the moderator increasing the chances for flare ups A moderator that is so strict in his moderating out what he considers of topic , acts like a machine. One should not expect to be treated like a human being, when one acts like a machine. Since modesty is not one of my vices :) , I think I did a most excellent job of "moderating" rofl I am working on a small post about the issue of names and personas which I intend to be my last participation on the issue of annonymous mods. But at this hour of the morning (4:34 AM, AST) and after a night shift as a human shield, my brain needs some rest. And, rest I will. |

Mod.Sense..... Hmmm... don't want to name any names... but has anyone else that has had their posts deleted in the past 2 weeks NOT received explanatory EMail? This may be a technical glitch that has increased the tension between moderators and posters, as we spent considerable time explaining why we were deleting posts and trying to be clear about what to do to not be deleted next time... if these comments went in to the bit bucket and were never delivered to you, it tends to explain why our posting advice went unheeded. Carl, any chance there is a glitch in the system? I mean did you change your EMail address? Or have you had same from the start? Perhaps a change wasn't fully completed or something in the database on the Rosetta server system. What I'm trying to ask is, can you think of anything about your account, which might be unique from others and might have uncovered such a glitch? Rosetta Moderator: Mod.Sense |

Checked all the filters FC...they`re fine nothing in junk, nothing spam... I`ve changed nothing in my account from the word go afaik. It`s either MS, CIA, FBI, MI5, the Guantanamo sunshine club or other blocking it, cos it`s nothing my end. P.S. I`m glad you posted that not me...else it`d be gone in a Parsec...;-) Not all Czech`s bounce but I`d like to try with Barbar ;-) Make no mistake This IS the TEDDIES TEAM. |

Checked all the filters FC...they`re fine nothing in junk, nothing spam... I think a "parsec" is a astronomical (in both senses of the word) unit of distance, not time, equal to 3.086 × 10^13 kilometers. Proudly Banned from Predictator@Home and now Cosmology@home as well. Added SETI to the list today. Temporary ban only - so need to work harder :) "You can't fix stupid" (Ron White) |

P.S. I`m glad you posted that not me...else it`d be gone in a Parsec...;-) Nothing to do with who posts it. Just a question of how long before it is found. ...suffice it to say Fluffy has also received EMail notifications on moderator actions. Since the EMail shows you your deleted message, and the entire message was quoted, I have deleted it. Carl, might I suggest we try another test? Change your profile to EMail to somewhere else, then we'll do another post and delete with msg test. Rosetta Moderator: Mod.Sense |
