there is also this one, but read carefully It's always bothered me that most suggestions for PGGB's using Earth ingredients don't even try to pay homage to the original. Arcturan Mega-gin would suggest gin, yes? Qualactin Hypermint extract would suggest something mint-flavoured, like peppermint schnapps, or perhaps creme de menthe? No, we get ten shots of bourbon layered with Baileys and Cointreau, or something equally stupid. Nobody adds the one thing we can get on earth, an olive. They're also pissweak to boot. I remember paying AUS$13 for a PGGB at the Sheraton Casino in Townsville, Australia in the early 90s. I got something in a balloon glass that was just a mixture of white spirits, some different coloured Voks and something frothy on top, with a red cross (???) of Grenadine. Sheesh. My PGGB? The Ol' Janx Spirit bit: Get a bottle of Polish Pure Spirit (it's 80% alcohol, and where I live comes in 375ml bottles, and I have it on good authority that like Ol' Janx, miners actually drink it. Alternatively, use that reflux still you have in your closet to distill some 96% ethanol). While the original instructions are vague (how much juice, exactly?), for your carbon-based metabolisms it's enough to use a single measure (45ml - about 36ml of alcohol, or the same as 2 and a bit measures of standard spirits). Of course, you can take the instructions literally, and use the whole bottle - the equivalent of about 22 shots of standard spirits. The mint flavour will be somewhat diluted. This will likely be the least of your problems. The Arcturan Mega-gin bit: Get three measures of gin from the freezer and chuck it in. (If you really want, you can add some benzene so it tastes just like the Arcturan stuff - it's carcinogenic in humans, but isn't everything?) The Fallian marsh gas bit: Nitrous. Suck on a bulb if you want an idea of how the hikers in the Fallian marshes may have felt. Hook up your Soda Stream, and run a bulb of nitrous through the drink. If you're using the whole bottle of pure spirit, I'm sure some passing crazy person could tell you how many bulbs you'd need for the four litres of gas described in the recipe. Qualactin Hypermint extract bit: Over the back of a silver spoon, float a measure of peppermint schnapps (the real Austrian 40-70% stuff they used as rocket fuel in WW2 if you can get it, not the 20% 'liqueur' - again, not a problem if you have your own still). The Angolian sun-tiger tooth bit: Drop in a Berocca. Or a Hairy Lemon. Something bright and sunny that dissolves, yeah? The Zamphour bit: You could use camphor for a really unusual taste - best to avoid it if you're pregnant, and you're own your own to work out doses. I sprinkle over some sumac. No idea why I decided to use sumac - it was just the first thing that popped into my head when I thought of an alien-sounding flavoring that could be sprinkled. Anyway, the lemon goes well with the mint, and it looks purty. The olive bit: Add an olive. Drink... but... very carefully... What about the Santraginean sea water bit? I couldn't think of an Earth equivalent for sea water that washed over marble beaches and gave off heady fumes and caused the fish to not care which way they swam, so I left it out. I've seen a goldfish in methylated spirits before, and he didn't look like he cared about much, so I guess you could use that. If you're using 45ml (1.5oz) measures, this recipe will make a 225ml drink with around 96ml of alcohol (assuming you're using 20-something percent schnapps) which is about the same as 6 shots of a standard spirit. If a 'measure' is a large handmade Mexican tequila shot glass or the best guess of your drunken sister-in-law, well, your mileage may vary. You can get the whole thing down in a couple of swallows - the lemon slice bit follows shortly thereafter. |

and the last series of pggb's 1 1/2 shots 151 Proof Rum 1/4 shot Tequila 1/4 shot Gin 2/3 shot Triple Sec 1 shot Blue Curacao 1 dash Bitters 1 dash Grenadine ------------------------ 1/2 ounce Vodka 1/2 ounce Triple Sec 1/2 ounce Yukon Jack liqueur 1/2 ounce Peach Schnapps 1/2 ounce Jack Daniel's Tennessee whiskey 1/2 ounce fresh lime juice 1/2 ounce cranberry juice Fill with lemon-lime soda Build in an ice-filled Collins glass, filling it with the soda. Stir with a long straw. ---------------------------- I finally found a drink that lives up to this expectation. Mix a "Kamakaze". A real one. A few drops of lime juice in a glass of vodka. Mix a "Slow Comfortable Screw Up Against the Wall" You can find the recipe elsewhere. It is basically Sloe Gin, Southern Comfort, Vodka, Galiano, and Orange Juice. Both of these drinks are nasty tasting and deadly on their own. Here's the trick: Take a sip of both a swirl it around in your mouth. It will taste just like Hawiian Punch! Really, I'm not kidding! Don't ask me how on earth I discovered this, because it should be obvious that I wouldn't remember. This is a fun drink at bars. Most waitresses will get very upset if you try to order both of these drinks at once. ----------------------------------- 35 cl Tia Maria® coffee liqueur 35 cl vodka 17.5 cl cherry brandy 1 dash lime juice 7-Up® soda dry cider Pour the tia maria, vodka and cherry brandy together into a pint glass. Add a dash of lime juice. Fill with equal amounts of dry cider and 7-up, and add ice cubes. Suggested serving: beer glass. have fun with these and if you survive drinking these without brain injury let us know which one was the best. |

Was considering heading into Times Square NYC, but predictions of both heavy crowds and rain after midnight. Going for a less hectic celebration with the family instead. Any good sale prices on C2D crunchers?! Waiting to see whats gonna happen here in the States, since I assume most stores are going to want to clear out all their XP units in anticipation of Vista. Hope for some good bargins! Thanks Penguin, it's 1am here so me and my other half had our fun and now its time to head off to bed. A bit late perhaps, but here's my favorite. I serve it whenever I host. It is originally inspired by the mai tai but designed for those who find their liquor cabinet full but their mixers lacking. 3 parts dark rum 3 parts light rum 3 parts triple sec 1 part amaretto 1 part grenadine 1 part lime juice (optional, but it takes the edge off for those who would otherwise spend the night on the floor) Serve in whatever portions you'd like - I prefer a pint glass. |

penguin your in NY? I was just over in the area back in sept/oct for a few days. stopped in times square and saw naked cowboy doing his thing lol we didn't have enough time to do everything we wanted, so maybe one of these days we will spend a week there after I find some good digs to stay in. Already have an idea what we are doing next vacation, so probably be a few years before we get back to NY. |

Yes, about a 5 min walk to a commuter train, 40 min express into Manhattan. I love the City, and I'm certain that there is so much of it I take for granted (still haven't been to the Statute of Liberty yet!). But, isn't that always the case?! Used to work in midtown, saw the Naked Cowboy frequently (but not too frequently, don't want you to get the wrong idea, lol!) If you're headed this way again, let me know. penguin your in NY? We got pretty good at navigating the subway, but we were in for a surprise when it came to doing a triple train transfer to get over to the red line to get back up north where we were staying. We hooked up with a native commuter and man he can cruise! Not to mention you get a good stairmaster work out. We never made the statue either, we were working the boroughs to try and find some rap and goth t-shirts at various stores around the area. So we were all over from little russia to the village over to the bronx. We did manage to get some time in around ground zero and the UN but never made it out to the watefront or do any of the towers. Maybe next time. Wow. Actually been a while since I've checked out the music scene in Little Odessa (I assume this is the same area you are calling Little Russia, Brooklyn near Coney Island). Seems like you did cover a lot of territory in the different boroughs! Bronx too, huh? Just recently went back to ground zero myself, after a few years. I spent some time living in Brooklyn, two subway stops away from Manhattan. Think the musics scene was getting started there. NYC subway system is very good. What I like most compared to others around the world that I've been to, it runs 24/7 (sorta like a Rosetta cruncher!), and its pay-on-price ($7, ride all you want for 1 day, subway & buses). I hate traveling around a foreign city, staying out late, having the public transport shut down, and being at the mercy of taxi drivers, lol ! Where ya thinkin' of heading next? Well I don't know just yet. I was thinking of doing Albuquerque since its been nearly 5 years since we were last there for our first time. Also wanted to pack in Disney Land, but then at the same time I want to see some old church friends that moved from Seattle where we both lived to a place about an hour out of Atlanta. So its more or less west coast tour, but I can't repeat all the dang plane hoping we did this last time. Brussels-London-New York (friggin super shuttle)then train to DC and then plane to Orlando, Then plane to Seattle and after a bit of time around with my parents it was Seattle-New York-London-Brussels. So this could be Brussels London or Brussels Atlanta with a open ended ticket. To early to say. But definitely doing Albuquerque and my brother and his wife (Portland, OR)and parents and Seattle. So just not sure how its all going to work out. With the new job I doubt we have enough time to do anything this year. Have to see what they give me for total days for 3 months work. European law is nice. Wow. Actually been a while since I've checked out the music scene in Little Odessa (I assume this is the same area you are calling Little Russia, Brooklyn near Coney Island). |

I thought the running joke of "if its Tuesday then we must be in Lichtenstein". I'm surprised that you were able to remember which state you were supposed to be in on which day! Yup, Europe is much more civilized when it comes to vacations... Well I don't know just yet. |

I like Albuquerque. Haven't spent much time in the city itself but I've flown in for trips that ended up further north. I've never been to NYC but I'm waiting on a reply from Columbia for grad school, so I might be spending a few years out there soon. We'll see. I'm also waiting on Chicago and Berkeley. Being from Saint Paul/Minneapolis, public transport in a lot of other places sounds wonderful but EXPENSIVE! 7 dollars for a day sounds ridiculous, but that's cost of living for you... I feel like everyone should grow up on the coasts and then to the the midwest instead of the other way around... |
