Hi Folks:

Can anyone tell me what motivated the big jump in the number of users that occurred in early June? I can't remember what triggered the increase.

Thanks,

Sean

My guess would be the R@H Associated Press article that was published around the country (well, world actually).

Never any single cause, but was primarily due to article published by Associated Press. It took a couple of days for various publications to include the story, and then a few days for some to respond and act on it and join.

About that same time, SETI was in flames and users staged a crunchers strike.

Of course that's our assumption as there is no hard evidence. At a similar time the top three teams started a competition between them, that could also have had an effect (ok it did have an effect)

It did indeed.. couple hundred joined XS over the space of a few weeks and previously the Dutch power Cows, peaked at over 1000. But I reckon the publicity got a good bit to do with it too.! Well done everybody!
I love Mr. Smith. He keeps us safe from Alien Scum. He's probably good a Rosetta too.
