hELLO I'm a phD student in Barcelona. I'm researching the structure and funcionality of metallothioenins. If anyone is studying taht metaloproteins, please get in contact with me. ruben.orihuela@uab.es |

Hi Ruben, I am a Preofessor in the US, in Cincinnati no less. We study cardiovascular molecular biology and have become interested in metallothioneins as our microarray work has shown they are involved in modulated certein cardioprotective effects in the heart, they are required for a phenomenon called late ischemic preconditioning. We have two hypotheses for this, 1) they act as scavengers for reactive oxygen species and thereby inducing them reduced injury, 2) They sequested the transcription factor NF-kappaB, which we also study and is critical for cell death/survival decisions in the heart. Would be interested in your i nsight as to the role played by metallothioneins in ischemia. Do you have any interesting mutants we might use to check structure/function associations of the protein with regard to ROS scavenging or protein binding? direct email is joneswk@uc.edu KJ hELLO I'm a phD student in Barcelona.
