I just started helping the project today and I see a lot of talk about credit and was wondering what credits actually are. What are they used for or what is their significance.

I'm sure there are other posts asking the same question but being pressed for time with a small baby it isn't so convienent to look it up instead of asking it over again, anoying as it may be to those who repeatedly answer it over and over.

I thank you in advance tho.

Elizabeth,

Welcome to the project fromt the Rosetta@home (R@H) team. Your question has been addressed a few other times, so I'll just say that credits are simply a measure of the amount of work you've done on the project.

There are two credit metrics of contribution, the total number of credits accumulated and the 'RAC' or recent average credit - roughly a snapshot of your active contribution now and over the recent past (folks will no doubt provide a more accurate definition for the RAC, that's the idea).

The collection of credits is a source of keen competition between individual users and teams as well.

Other will provide more detail (and possibly more detail than you'ld ever need) - that's the way it works!

Also, you may find anything (maybe everything!) you could possible need to know about BOINC and the various other projects at the BOINC Wiki and here for all your credit questions. Happy Crunching!

Tim
