Should there be any tansactions showing in this window as you complete tasks, receive new tasks and blocks of data move between your machine and the host?

Yes, you will see items in that tab whenever work is being downloaded or results are being sent back. Once the transfer is completed, the line item is removed from the Transfers tab. So... most of the time, this tab shows nothing. This is because the work has already been downloaded and it takes several hours to crunch it and have the results to be reported back.
