If you thought April's stats were interesting, you will love the next 30-40 days.
The XtremeSystems team is ramping up to try and overtake the good folks over at Free DC who are currently in the #1 position.
This will be one heck of a chase for us as Free DC is the premier DC team with as dedicated and good a group of people as you will find anywhere.
You might want to bring in some LN2 to keep your routers and switches cool as I have a feeling the teams will be working them as never before!<BG>
Best Wishes to both teams!

That sounds pretty cool! I hope Free-DC will stand up and not cede the 1st place without a fight! When two quarrel, science rejoices! ;-)

Great!!! is this in part responsible for the increase in credits as Jose suggests? I've been puzzled about where it has come from as boincstats has not shown much of an increase in the active users lately.

we will be sure to have lots of jobs queud this weekend!

In order to enjoy this battle even longer and to have a nice Tflop boost in the coming weeks perhaps a few user can decide to support Free-DC. Right now it seems XtremeSystems uses a shock and awe tactic, but the question is can they sustain this output? ;-)

Evidently, I registered at the Extreme forums.. and recently received an email begging me to do my part for their team. *grin*
The folks at Free-DC haven't reached that level of desperation, yet. :)

In case you didn't notice when you registered: XtremeSystems is NOT a DC-only forum like Free-DC is... only a very, very small part of our registered members are familiar with (or even interested in) Distributed Computing.(unlike our ~very much respected~ friends over at Free-DC, where the whole forum is about crunching)
We see no desperation in sending a mail to our OWN members in an attempt to (hopefully) get them interested in joining the crunching-competition with other teams... If you consider this "begging", so be it...

REALLY! We don't need to stoop to that sort of shameless pimping.

We'll just quietly add a few more 100s of GHz of crunching power to maintain our total dominance.

Proudly Banned from Predictator@Home and now Cosmology@home as well. Added SETI to the list today. Temporary ban only - so need to work harder :)

....

Don't forget you can adjust the run time of the work units. If you set your run time parameter to a longer time, you will assure more Work units are available, you will reduce the bandwidth on your systems and the server, and you will also see a slight increase in your RAC due to the higher credit claims for each returned result.

You would receive the same overall credit for the longer run times, but many have found it a very useful tool in reducing bandwidth requirements. IF you think you might run out of work you can reset the time parameter on the fly to make work units in your queue last longer.

Keith and David are convinced we are prepared. With the AP article coming out as well, it could be a big weekend! but believe me, we need it, as a whole bunch of new casp targets were released this week, and some are very large. The reduction in the sizes of the files we send out has reduced the load on our servers considerably--everything seems to be running really smoothly.

A question for members of the teams vying for dominance--Rom is currently working on an a benchmark internal to the rosetta code that will ultimately used in calculating credits. would you like to see this on rosetta@home sooner or later?

Rom is currently working on an a benchmark internal to the rosetta code that will ultimately used in calculating credits.

If the benchmark is internal to Rosetta, we can invite the Russian team that held first place in FaD to see if they can catch up to the production levels of the current top teams.. they were waiting for a lower bandwidth usage (which we've achieved) and a fair benchmark that was the same for every OS.
So it can have effects beyond just the current top teams..

I'm not a member of one of the top producing teams, however.

Begging/pimping/soliciting/recruiting/bribing people to teamhop/borging, etc - no matter what you do to increase your team stats - someone will call foul. :) And while I found the email amusing (since I'm on another team), the XS email did seem to be well written to encourage people to run Rosetta during CASP. And the email will no doubt do much more than my signature on our team's forums where I challenge everyone there to beat my single Rosetta machine and make me last place on the team ranks.

I hope it will get tested allot at Ralph first and I hope current credit per hour at least are maintained.

Not shock and awe at all. Plain old fashioned hard work and some old fashioned motivating!
We sent out an email to the 28,000+ registered members at XtremeSystems.
One of our members took on that task and I stayed "up" with him that night on MSN to try and keep him awake<BG> Took 12 hours to send all those emails.
As was mentioned in this thread, the DC part of XS is very small. If memory serves me correctly on April1 we were producing app 150,000 points a day.
Yesterday according to the stats page that I follow(http://stats.free-dc.org/new/projpage.php?proj=rah) we did 543,572 for the day.
I posted a thread over at our forum: "One Million in a day on Rosy"
This will take some planning but I think that we're going to shoot for this on the weekend of June 17-18. Not sure as to whether it will be Sat or Sunday yet,
This will be no stored WU game but a flat out run everything that has a cpu in it that you can find. Everyone likes a challenge and I thought the guys would love this one and if we can pull it off everyone benefits and we have some fun with it.
Once again I'd like to say that I admire and respect the FREE-DC Team and I wish them the best in this competition.
Dr. Baker: Perhaps you'd like to come over and register at our forum.
I know for a fact that a post from you to the guys would do more than I can describe to motivate the troops. www.xtremesystems.com
You and/or any of your staff would be more than welcome anytime.
Sincerely,
XS Movieman

For the Record. The XtremeSystem people KNOW the Free DC team is not going to roll over.

For the record: We know the Free DC is a classy team , so we respect them. I will use caps for a little emphasis; ANY BAITING that may be seen is in a good humored way, no disrespect is intended .

I think one thing that both teams involved in the current fight for top are in unanimous agreement: THIS IS THE TIME TO HELP ROSETTA by producing more Wu's . Of course we are enjoying the "fight"and BTW the Free DCs are not playing dead: they are ramping up their production... what we are enjoying more is watching the Number of TFlops @ Rosetta increase and the knowledge that our upsurge in work produced is helping in this most critical CASP time.

You don't need to be a big team or even a team member to produce more: Something as simple as allowing Rosetta to work even if the computer is in use helps All those extra minutes of CPU times add up.

Small friendly competitions with fellow team members can get the smaller teams into the lets ramp up production mood.

Yes emails work. Spread the news, send a link to the Rosetta Page. One extra person we each get to lend his computer to the project helps. This is not a sprint race: it is an endurance race where every small step added helps.

You all know, the hassles I have had with my computer, so it will take a minor miracle to see my RAC go over a 100 LOL LOL ...but if it takes me to become the voodoo doll waiving, streaker nut case motivator to prod my team and motivate them, by Jove I will become that (oopsies I have become that :) ). Hey a man has to do what a man has to do :)

I think we are going to be in for some exiting months here.

I like this!!!!

Jose
