Dues anyone know how the times for Celeron processors are compaired to a P4 of a close speed?

I have a P4 2.4 Gig and my wife just got a 2.93 Gig Celeron D system with 256 megs of memory, will add another 512 Megs this weekend.

For SETI
The Celeron comes close to the P4, 2 and a half hours compaired to 1 Hr. and 40 Min for the P4.

PREDICTOR:
For Predictor it slows down a lot to about 2 to 3 Hr's compaired to 40 to 45 Min. on the P4.

CPDN:
I have not tried this on it, as I will be reformating the HD and installing Win XP this weekend, has Win 98 now, but I have seen some Celerons keeping up to or doing better than P4's of the same speed.

After changeing the OS and adding more memory I would like to run Rosetta on it as long as it dues not take a lot longer. Will probably run 50/50 SETI and Rosetta or CPDN. Would prefer Rosetta over CPDN as there Sulpher model is taking close to 2/3 of the time on the P4. If Rosetta takes to long here I will stop SETI and run Rosetta on the P4 when the Wifes system is ready.

Don't compare the times as is. What you want to know about is whether or not the project's science application uses the level 2 cache in the CPU a lot or not. Because that's essentially the only difference between the CPUs: The amount of L2 cache (128KB-256KB for the Celeron against 512KB-1024KB for the P4).

And it seems to not need that big of an L2 cache, it is doing better than my P4, but it's clock speed it a bit faster, 2.93 gig compaired to 2.4 gig for the P4. Of course each project is diferant as to what CPU's thay run better on.

Now I have to get more memory on the P4, only have 512 Megs now. The new Celeron (wifes computer) has 756 megs.
