What happens if you manually download the .exe from https://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/download/ and copy it into BOINC's projects/*rosetta directory? I can testify that if you are able to download the application from the site (I do regularly) you can then just put it in the rosetta project folder where it should be. You can even place it there while if it's still downloading in BOINC. It will either see it's complete and finish or say already there and skip file (if you where not already downloading it) I know as I do it for my computer since I'm on dial-up, I download it in advance knowing that when my current tasks are finishe it'll try to download on all of the computer, this save me a heep of time connected :-) But it looks like all the transfers are failing near the end. oculd it be they are actually getting to 100% but boincmanager doesn't update regularly enough for you to see it. May be it's related to my large file upload problem through a proxy It completes but the communication at the end (100%) fails the upload with 'http error' or 'http internal server error' You may want to do a detailed transfer log (with boinc 5.4.9) http://boinc.berkeley.edu/client_msgs.php try then all :-) warning the log files make complicated reading Team mauisun.org |

and ust in case this is the direct file download https://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/download/rosetta_5.13_windows_intelx86.exe but if your desperate to get crunching you may want to try using http://www.freedownloadmanager.org/download.htm a download manager. Team mauisun.org |

Or, you say it's working OK on one of your puters, you can copy it from the working one, and paste it to the other. I'm leaning that way myself, expecially since others are reporting it (to a limited extent). It would be easier all around if you could copy it from one puter and put it on the other. If I email it to you you'll have to unzip, then rename. You can email me at [deleted]. How familiar are you with this operation. Do you need full instructions? tony |

[Youre the nman Tony it's working. <wiping sweat from brow> man I was worried, that some little error was going to creep in and make this not work. Glad to hear it, now if Rosetta can just figure out why they're dropping connections to people in your condition, we won't have to do this for every new app that comes out. tony |

Thanks for the link to manually download the file(rosetta_5.13_i686-pc-linux-gnu). I tried downloading the file with opera. Unfortunately it dies at exactly the same point (actual size of incomplete file is 9,293,312). This is exactly the size downloaded using boinc. The file is supposed to be 9,598,436 correct? Ralph has also tried to download today. I'm getting work units but the file rosetta_beta_5.13_i686-pc-linux-gnu is dying at 96.82% 8.86/9.15. Actual file size for this is 9,293,547. (note it is named beta_5.13, the one for rosetta isn't beta). Otherwise the behavior and error messages are exactly the same. I'll keep an eye on this thread, but I'm going to stick with world grid for now. I can't think of what it could be on my end that could cause this, but I'm not a networking guru either. I may try lhc again in the near future to see if I still have the problem there as well, but my poor dial-up connection has had enough of a work out for the time being :) Anyway if my problem is not related to jean-paul's, after all, I'm sorry for confusing the issue. |

Perhaps your ISP is trying to "protect" you by halting the download of any file containing a suspicious string of bytes. These strings are from nasty programs, but there are now so many of them that sometimes one of them will be in an innocent program (a false positive). The download would be stopped at the point where the string is. If this is the case, it may be possible to turn the "protection" on and off. Many ISPs will have an "account management" section on their website. |

Or, you say it's working OK on one of your puters, you can copy it from the working one, and paste it to the other.no no no I just tried predictor to see if it work and it does but no rosetta yet. This could also be a result of the load on the Rosetta server. This always happens for a while after a new software release. Right now we have just released a new application version, a lot of new work unit types, and a lot of new people are attaching. It could be that the server connections are timing out after a certain period of time. How fast is your connection? Moderator9 ROSETTA@home FAQ Moderator Contact |

Or, you say it's working OK on one of your puters, you can copy it from the working one, and paste it to the other.no no no I just tried predictor to see if it work and it does but no rosetta yet. Well in the last two weeks, there have been 4 software releases. There have also been at least 6 different kind of work units. It takes about 4 days for the servers to normalize after a software release. But lets see if we can get you going another way. If I understand all this correctly you have another system that is running Rosetta 5.13. If that is the case you can put a copy of that application exe in the BOINC files folder on your system as others have described and that will get it going. But that is just a patch for the communications issue. For some reason BOINC is timing out. While I have seen this before, it is not a common problem, and it is usually one of three things, something at the ISP, something in the communications settings on the computer, or the server timing out on slower connections when it is busy. Since you have loaded applications from other project we will assume it is not your computer. That leaves the Rosetta server, and your ISP. At present I am only aware of three people having similar issues. This makes me think it is something related to the ISP. It could be a file size limit, or a connection time issue. Connection time would be related to speed. What I would like to do is get you going somehow and see if you have any problems with some of the larger Work units currently being sent out. I know the smaller ones were not a problem for you. Did you have any luck getting the application via e-mail? Moderator9 ROSETTA@home FAQ Moderator Contact |

Mod9, he IS working again, I emailed him the Rosetta app, and he used that. He could download the app from other projects, but no matter when he tried or how (either manually downloading from site, or automatically during attachment), he couldn't get the app file downloaded from Rosetta. He can download all the other stuff from Rosetta, but not the LARGE file. He's was getting connection dropped or cut off. There are a few reports of NO APP file downloading. I am leaning toward the problem being on Rosettas server/file handler end. Probably in how it negotiates a transaction, some time limit or something. During overloaded connections you'd see 400, 500, 106, and 182 errors reported. This didn't occur for JP. |
