Message 108313 - Posted: 16 Apr 2023, 3:53:27 UTC - in response to Message 108304.

Lots of crashes on my Ryzen 7 5800X. None received on my i5-9600K so I can't tell if it's just that machine of mine or if it's a general thing
My Ryzen 9 5950X got 6 beta tasks, all completed and validated OK.

Looks like I'm going to be doing a thorough clean tomorrow.
About time tbh - it's been a long while since last time

But if they're now releasing actual Beta applications to main it just makes me even happier i've stopped doing Rosetta work.

Edit- and there they are, listed with all the other applications here at the main project.
That is not how you do software development.

I agree this is not the right way to develop the project (and i also participate to Ralph to report bugs).
And the lack of communications is "historical"

But, why stop doing Rosetta work?
They (we) are still doing science...

What is the point in Ralph existing if they don`t use it .
[no need to answer]

I answer anyway.
I reported the graphic bug on Ralph (it's not a big problem but is, however, a bug).
Result?
The same graphic app on Rosetta, with the same bug!!

Einstein tasks vary a lot, but some take 2.5 GBytes at times.
Some Oifs ClimatePrediction tasks take around 8 GBytes.
That is why I put a total of 128 GBytes of RAM into my Linux box.

Boinc Manager says Rosetta uses 3.13GB.
Einstein uses 2.30GB.
Asteroids 1.29MB
Milky Way 24.0MB
Universe 8.17MB
WCG 148.48MB

Rosetta is a resource hog.

My Linuz Boinc Manager does not say that, but at the moment I have only Rosetta beta-6.00 tasks and all three require
Virtual memory size 1.82 GB
Working set size 1.69 GB

And Einstein requires
einstein_O3MD1_1.03_x86_64-pc-linux-gnu__GW-SSE2
Virtual memory size 3.17 GB
Working set size 3.16 GB

"Rosetta is a resource hog."

It would be, if I got any tasks.

This batch of 6.00 seems more stable and with less memory request
And graphic runs correctly!

You have processed 2.

Work is being sent out, but it's in dribs and drabs. Sometimes every few hours, sometimes every few days, other times every few weeks. And sometimes there are 50,000+, other times only a few thousand.
So if your system doesn't request wok while it is available, then you won't get any.

Just got some 6.03 Beta tasks, still running.
When trying to view the graphics, it still crashes as in the latest vrsions.
I did manage to capture the command window that is connected with
the graphics:

←[0mcore.init: ←[0mChecking for fconfig files in pwd and ./rosetta/flags
←[0mcore.init: ←[0mRosetta version: 2022.33.post.dev+18.dimaio.boincaug22.71f90eda39e 71f90eda39e7286841ad07550673c8e8d69e21ef git@github.com:RosettaCommons/main.git 2022-08-31T16:09:17

←[0mcore.init: ←[0mThere is some way to automatically figure out the path to rosetta_database with GetModuleFileName in Windows. This is already set up for linux and mac, its probably just one line to change in core/init/init.cc

←[0mcore.init: ←[0mCould not determine location of executable.
←[0mcore.init: ←[0mCould not find database. Either specify -database or set environment variable ROSETTA3_DB.

←[0mcore.init: ←[0mUSEFUL TIP: Type -help to get the options for this Rosetta executable.

Hope this can help in debugging the crashes!!
