I attached to this project less than 10 days ago. I wasn't prepared for all these new executables. Actually, I guess the worst thing that could happen is rosetta would be clamped at 30% of my cpu speed rather than 80%. I guess I could also pre-enter new versions into the registry. rosetta_5.08_windows_intelx86.exe rosetta_5.09_windows_intelx86.exe rosetta_5.10_windows_intelx86.exe rosetta_5.11_windows_intelx86.exe It's not really a serious problem, but I had never thought about this particular situation. I need a more modern cpu. On a positive note, I haven't had any problems with my many 5.01 workunits. I haven't reached my single 5.06 or 5.07 workunits yet. Jack Tampa, Florida |

I guess I could also pre-enter new versions into the registry. ...would I be correct to presume that the threadmaster has a "registry"? I wouldn't worry about pre-registering any of them. It will be very common to see gaps in the released versions. And, new versions aren't actually all that common. If you really wanted to, you can see what's coming be reviewing the website for Ralph apps. But running Rosetta@home just might! https://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/ |

Thanks for the link. I have spent the last week learning about Thread Master. It is an old program used by SETI@HOME crunchers to limit the amount of overheating caused by the constant 100 percent load on the cpu. It can limit the percentage of cpu resources that any single process can control. A modern cpu allows limiting clock rates by software control, but my computer has been sitting in a closet since 2002! It was given to me about two weeks ago, and while it has very respectable speed at 1.7 GHZ, (AMD Athlon) - it has very poor heat tolerance! The fan sounded like a turbo jet when I would run BOINC. My Athlon XPs have run at 100% cpu usage since I started running DC apps. I ended up getting a better case with a mounting for a 80mm fan beside the cpu, in addition to the power supply fan, and opted for a higher efficiency HSF and thermal paste for the cpu. 2001 review of 46 HSFs It's looking harder to find 462pin socket HSF assemblies, although some of the newer HSF assemblies for 754 and 939 pin sockets include mounting arrangements for 462 pin sockets. If you'd like more ideas, visit any of the overclocking or tech forums and ask for advice. www.rhcf.com still has a fair number of 462 pin socket users. |
