I've just signed on to Rosetta and have downloaded the BOINC software. I put exceptions into my Windows XP firewall for boincmgr.exe, boinc.exe and boinc.scr. I can load up BOINC Manager, and the screensaver works, too. I can't connect to a project though. I use Project URL https://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta and my e-mail rgus@nethere.com. I get a nice screenshot of a cup of latte, but then it says it can't connect with the project. The messages screen shows a connection and a request for new work, and after a little a second line saying no schedulers responded and then a third line saying it can't connect to URL boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta-please check URL. I've tried BOINC on two other URL's too--www.worldcommunitygrid.org and boinc.bio.wzw.tum.de/boincsimap with the same result. I've established user accounts on all three websites. What is going on? What is going on?

Since you are seeing the problem with all three projects, it sounds like you've either got an internet problem with that PC, or perhaps you have selected the option to suspend network activity?? Go the your BOINC Manager, click on the Commands pulldown menu, and select "Network Activity Always Available", and reconfirm your internet connection is established. Just try to access a website from your browser on that same PC to make sure your internet access is presently up and running... of course, you made this post on the msg board... so I suppose it must be.

This sort of question should really be posted on the Q&A boards, probably the "Getting Started" would be the best place. Are you running Windows on your PC?

I did change to "Network Activity Always Available" but got the same result. I'll try to Q & A Message Boards. Thanks.

Thread moved from the science forum

But it looks as though you were trying to connect during the Project outage yesterday. You might try again. Also if you login to the project and go to your preferences page and set a password for you account there, then use that password to connect this will sometimes help in situations like this.

First, it looks as if the BOINC Manager can talk to the BOINC Daemon (this is good news). However, it looks as if your internet connection is a problem. BOINC.exe needs outbound connections on ports 80 (http) and 443 (https). It needs inbound connections on 1043 and 31416 for either the LOCAL HOST, or the LOCAL NETWORK ONLY - Security suggestion, do not allow these inbound from the internet.

Is there another line that indicates that a network check succeeded or failed near the failed connection to the server?

What version of BOINC are you using? Is it possible to update to 5.2.x?
