Looking at his username, we see he's only posted 3 times, and all in this thread. So, he's new to the boards, and first impressions can sway him. If he'd posted 50 or 100 times, he'd have a feel for how info is presented and be more seasoned to the terminology. So basically, he's only come here because he has a problem (most likely anyway). Assuming his probable lack of experience, we shouldn't assume he's done all the basic stuff we take for granted.

Looking at Jeff's Boincstats for Rosetta, we see he hasn't returned results since January.

He's done 55.8% seti, 44.2 percent rosetta

basically, it looks like he dropped both projects mid january.

Your suggestions worked fine. It look like the firewall was the problem.
I notice from the log it picked up the latest version I had downloaded.

In one of the message you talk about

THis part says he's NOT using an optimized client
Is this the Boinc client and if it is how does one optimize it.

I see somewhere in this you also upgraded from 5.2.8 (which was the current version when classic seti shut down) to 5.2.13 (the current recommended release). Note: a new recommended release is days away 5.4.X.

The optimized boinc applications don't speed anything up. They adjust benchmarks for those using optimized applications on different projects (read-Seti). See the seti Number crunching forum for more on that. Using some optimized boinc clients with Rosetta can cause you to claim more credit than you should an can be considered cheating by some users. (myself included). It's best to learn more about them and the future of seti before jumping in that issue.
