Here is a short video of David Baker describing some exciting results from de novo designs targeting SARS-Cov-2.

Thank you all for your contributions to this research! Although R@h was not directly used for the work described in the publication (link provided below), R@h was used for designing relevant scaffolds. Additionally, there are currently many similar designs that bind SARS-Cov-2 and related targets that were engineered using R@h.

More information is available from the publication, De novo design of picomolar SARS-CoV-2 mini protein inhibitors.

Message 99087 - Posted: 22 Sep 2020, 7:15:21 UTC - in response to Message 99082.

David, thank you so much for this update.
You are a great, great scientist... I've read a lot in these months about your works and biography and I am sure the work you are doing together with all the people working at IPD will do revolutionary things for everyone in the next years.
Actually I got so passionate about this field that I am seriously considering to move my study path toward bioinformatics... It's not an easy move from a bachelor in Philosopy but it could be done :)
This LCB1 protein looks very promising, I hope that this work could defeat this terrible pandemic. It would be childish to believe that this will be 100% the first and revolutionary cure against coronavirus: it still has to be tested on human beings and this will takes months and potentially adverse effects could arise; nonetheless, the chance that it will works are good. In the case it will function and it will be the first, then you will get an incredible media coverage. In this (incredible lucky) case, please remember to mention several times Rosetta@Home and Foldit to the media... Boinc could pass from a niche phenomenon to a mass and global case, with benefits for everyone :)
Thank you again in the name of everyone.

As Bakers says: “We could wait another million years for the protein we need to evolve, or we could design it ourselves.”

Somebody listened. Although I was rather surprised (but not annoyed) that it opened the video for me without me touching it! I walked back into my room to see the video waiting to play, opened ready on my browser. Not sure how that's even possible. I've had it 4 times now, I'm guessing once from each of my 6 machines which are all connected to this one by Boincstats.

Very irritant, that the video is popping up tens or more times each time on a new tab in Chrome.
I'll remove Rosetta@home now to be rescued from that. During typing 2 other tabs appeared. (3 times)
Thank you soo much David Baker.

Well, that's strange. I just received the notice on the 2 computers I have attached but nothing opened automatically.
I clicked on the Youtube link and it opened 1 tab that was waiting for my input in order to start playing.

I don't suppose the two of you are running BOINCTasks?
I saw someone on the BOINC Network Discord complaining about the same issue you had but he said it was BOINCTasks that kept opening the video on Chrome without clicking on it.
He specifically said it was BOINCTasks giving the issue, not the BOINC Manager.

Falconet, you're right. It's in the BoincTasks Settings -> Tab Notices.
I had set "Check for new notices every (0=Disabled)" to 1 minute. I now disabled that, but meanwhile removed the Rosetta project to try to get rid of it.
Even that did not help. The first time I even thought it was a computer virus and not something about coronavirus ;)

Edit: Meanwhile I attached Rosetta again and it's reproducable.
Exiting BoincTasks stops the video popup or as mentioned before disable check for new notices.

All I did was to close the notice. In the notices tab, use the red X against it.

Have you reported the bug to Boinctasks? Fred'll sort it if you post in the forum.

It's really weird since this has never happened with another notice. I assume this Rosetta notice had a differently coded link that Boinctasks decided to launch?

WTF is going on here. I've never had a SPAM popup from BOINC before. Intentional or not, it is the definition of SPAM. Seems like the only likely solution is to detach Rosetta.

This is 100% not a BOINCTasks issue. No BOINC tasks here, and as soon as BoincManager is opened, a new tab is opened in my browser to the linked video. More than likely it's because rather than a just a link to the video the video is actually embedded in the Notice.

**Edit** Forgot to say congrats on the work, and thanks for the update. You might want to clean up the notice a bit. ;)

More than likely it's because rather than a just a link to the video the video is actually embedded in the Notice.

This is surely related to the "Check for new notices" in BoincTasks Settings together with the embedded link within Rosetta's notice.

Which means it's yet another major bug in Boinc. Embedded video in a notice launching a browser, how absurd.

No, because it's a one off by accident, you're overreacting. Once you delete the message, you won't see it again.

shows up in edge as new tab. I had about 30 of those tab page coronavirus reports as the computer runs 24/7 and edge was left up overnight.
I set the check time for new notices to 0 in boincstats, maybe that will fix the problem.
