Hi, Rosetta supporters! I would like to know these 3 things to estimate the number of cores that my smartphone can use simultaneously to run Rosetta@home WU (and if these RAM requirements are low enough, I might consider running Rosetta@home exclusively in my phone, rather than other BOINC projects). Thank you for your time! Best wishes, Covid19ToTheGallows |

Generally with Multicore systems you need to allow 1.3GB of RAM per core/thread. Minimum Task RAM requirements are around 200MB, the largest i have seen has been just over 3GB (although up to 4GB is possible). Allowing 1.3GB per Task generally gives enough RAM for that many Tasks, with enough to keep the OS happy as well. Due to the general mix of Tasks, the more cores/threads your system has, then the less RAAM you need to allocate per core/thread running to avoid running in to insufficient RAM issues. The less cores/threads you have, then the larger it needs to be. The median does vary widely. When i started Rosetta some months ago my 6c/12t system was using 16BG of RAM to run Rosetta, over the last few weeks it had been down to less than 8GB of RAM. Over the last few days it's been back up to around 12GB of RAM. Grant Darwin NT |

Thank you very much for your thoughtful considerations! Unfortunately, I will not be able to run Rosetta@home on my Android device, then. (only 0.9 free memory / 1.8 total, even if I have 8 cores) Just a quick note: I was talking about the median per core/work_unit and not for a Client running many cores. I guess from your reply that the median should be around 1.3GB. |

I guess from your reply that the median should be around 1.3GB.Probably closer to around 750-800MB (but it would depend on the period you sample- a few months go it would have been well over 800MB. A few weeks ago probably around 450MB). Grant Darwin NT |

Dear, Just started the program and the CPU usage went up almost to 100%. Having a i7 ultimate generation laptop. Any recommendations? Thank you very much, |

Most BOINC projects are designed to maximize CPU usage, but at a lower priority than the user, effectively using your spare computational power. This is working as intended. If you are having any specific problems, there are options within the BOINC client to restrict your contribution. |
