Have to ask - do I really need to redownload the client in order to update it? |

Updated BOINC Clients for Win 64, Mac OS X 64 and Linux 64 have been released for public use 7.16.6 for Linux is still showing as a Development version? And v7.16.6 was meant to have the fix for the "finish file present too long" problem, but i can't see any mention of it in the release notes. Grant Darwin NT |

I would suspend your processing under "Activities" then look under the "Help tab on the BOINC client is a "check for updates" selection. As far as I know telling the client to check for a newer version just tells you if there is one. It doesn't auto-update. You'll still have to download and install it for windows, As for the Linux versions LocutusOfBorg (Gianfranco) has a ppa which seems to have 7.16.5. I'm on Debian and they have is 7.16.1 in their buster-backports repo or 7.16.5 in their testing repo. I dropped Gianfranco an email after the announcement on the boinc_dev mailing list. In the announcement Dr Anderson mentioned he has built a self-extracting version for Ubuntu 18.04 but not tested it. Feel free to try it out and let us know how it goes. You can find it here and look for the once called boinc_ubuntu_7.16.6_x86_64-pc-linux-gnu.sh be warned its a 26MB download. MarksRpiCluster |

In the BOINC Manager it comes up with a message in the Notices tab that a new version is available, and in the message is a link to download the new version. At present my Manager notice is still for v7.14.2 Grant Darwin NT |

Ive updated 2 clients to the latest version, both on WIN 10 64 bit computers I keep getting the following: 11/04/2020 2:41:00 pm | Rosetta@home | update requested by user 11/04/2020 2:41:03 pm | Rosetta@home | Project requested delay of 7 seconds and then nothing, it wont go back for new work by manually updating. there is no more communication after that. will normally come back and say requesting work for the CPU downloading x work units or no work from project. my 3rd client which i haven't updated will connect to the server find when i click update and is able to get new work. i feel like the server/boinc client isnt communicating properly. |

Ive updated 2 clients to the latest version, both on WIN 10 64 bit computers I had the same concern regarding communications and status, but after looking at the system from my account from the Project side (a different project) WU's were being completed and uploaded and new work was coming down when needed by the scheduler. its not even doing basic things like saying: computation for task xyz finished Starting task xyz Sending scheduler request: To report completed tasks. Reporting 1 completed tasks Requesting new tasks for CPU even with 5 tasks ready to report and a manual report (i dont know why they didnt report when finished) there were no messages. Doesnt leave me with much confidence that things are happening as they should |

its not even doing basic things like saying: Get the Task numbers and go to the Project and look at your Tasks and see what the status of the task is, Bill F In October 1969 I took an oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; There was no expiration date. |

its not even doing basic things like saying:In that Manager, select Options, Event log options. are file_xfer, Sched_ops and task ticked? even with 5 tasks ready to report and a manual report (i dont know why they didnt report when finished)That is the way Rosetta is set up. It contacts the Scheduler to get more work, but not just to report completed work (unless it is just after requesting more work & reporting completed work & it realises it needs more to meet the cache settings). its not even doing basic things like saying:In that Manager, select Options, Event log options. When task completes ... status in the Client changes to "Uploading" and a the Data is sent to the Project. Then the status changes to "Ready to report". Stat's for the project in the Client are updated after the next scheduled successful communication. BUT your data has already been sent and you have nothing to fear. Tests here suggest that the v7.16.5 Event Log is working normally. Could you possibly have selected 'Show only this project' by mistake, and be showing only a different project? Open the Event Log, and look at the left-hand button below the list. If it says 'Show all messages', click it. |

went to bed and suddenly they are all working again, without touching anything. |

I wonder if the immediate delay request from the scheduler is how it handles things when it has too many connections open... but the 7 second delay it requested doesn't seem to leave it much time to dig out. Rosetta Moderator: Mod.Sense |
