Years ago, closer to when I joined Rosetta@home in 2007, I seem to recall that the screensaver behaved slightly different. What was the most memorable about it was that simple proteins would just scream by as they were calculated. Obviously everything has changed since then...the models are much farther along, what's being modeled is likely more complex, computers are far more powerful or at least the core count has gone up. But it seems like today I've never seen the screensaver show proteins any faster than maybe 1-3 structures per second whereas before I'm guessing it was dozens or 20+ per second. Is this by design? Is this just the result of the changing times, or was there an intentional change to the screensaver? I know in a time like this especially it would be ridiculous to suggest a code change for something so extremely frivolous and cosmetic, but I would still like to know if there's a story behind it. Just to make sure I'm not crazy I did go check out some <2010 youtube videos of the Rosetta screensaver and they did align with my memory...many more structures per second seem to be displayed. Thanks for any insight, Dylan |

The speed that the model progresses, is basically related to the number of amino acids in the protein(s) being studied. Back in the day, as you mention, the proteins often had less than 50 AAs. Now they often have over 200. Rosetta Moderator: Mod.Sense |

That makes perfect Sense. Thank you for the explanation. |

The new 4.12 WUs will probably make you happy, they look like what you remember in graphic :D |

There are some settings controlling graphics behaviour in your Rosetta@home preferences. The defaults are low to try to ensure your machine doesn’t spend more time drawing pictures than doing useful work… |
