I see a LOT of data on the energy and RMSD on the graphic. If the histogram were eliminated, and just show the crosshairs, would that put a dent in the R@H memory requirements at all?

I don't think ALL of that detail goes back with the result... and *I* am not using it, so perhaps it could be eliminated. Or put a button on the graphic to start logging it when you want to.

compared to the amount of data needed for the structure i imagine a small table of values isn't much

as for memory usage, as far as i know the graphics are rendered in real-time, so i don't think there's much memory used for them (except graphics memory on your GPU)

I was attempting to ask about the data that makes up the squiggly lines along the bottom and across the right side. These are comprised of thousands of datapoints, which have to be in memory to continue graphing them. And then there's also thousands of datapoints in the square in the lower right as well, or perhaps it's the same data, but seems like it might be several MBs that could be saved simply by not retaining the data for the graphic. And on the machines where BOINC is installed as a service, most aren't using the graphic anyway.

Some of the rest of us are using it. Putting a button on the graphic won't work if you want to display the screen saver. There would have to be something added to the prefs to accomplish what you are asking for. The system has to keep track of all that data to proceed with the processing anyway. Displaying it adds only to the use of graphic diplay memory use on the display card, not the use of main memory.

With a working set size typically north of 50 M bytes, the memory required to store two sets each containing 1,000 data points, i.e. 8 K bytes. is simply not significant.
