Can somebody please remove this item from the Q&A board? The visible text is so long that you cannot see the right "Answers" bar indicating the number of answers and the time since they were given anymore. To see the effect you need to go into the board rather than the post itself. Very annoying when trying to browse that board.

Thanks.

I've deleted the message Christoph mentioned. It's subject line indicated it was a test message anyway. The only text was a url tag and it was very long and not redured very well on the msg board display.

Could you feedback that bug back to the developers ... It is a bug that needs fixing.

Stu, this is a question better for the number crunching forum. The message board moderators cannot control your RAC. But many users (and moderators) can offer you suggestions on things to look for. But the subject warrents it's own thread. Or, perhaps join this existing discussion on the subject.

re: https://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/forum_thread.php?id=986&filter=false#34993

In message https://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/forum_thread.php?id=986&nowrap=true#19485 , it was stated:

"Requirements for posting to this thread

Feel free to post an advertisement for your team on this thread

1) Only one post (listing) per team please. "

I notice a number of instances of teams posting multiple times. Will this be dealt with?

RE: Team ads thread, I believe I've removed all the duplicates. If I've missed any, please let me know. Likewise, if I've accidentally removed a team's only post, we can correct that too.

tmpchaos, just so you are aware of it, we did decide to open up the Cafe board a little more to teams and allow them to each have a thread if they like. So don't be surprised if threads start popping up. I hope it encourages team involvement in the project.

Per the posting guidelines, only one post on this thread per team please. Deleting older posts. But you might consider starting a thread for your team in the Cafe.

I haven't seen a moderator requesting no pictures in the word link thread. And I do not intend to devote much time to that thread. I suggest you go to your message board preferences and in the filtering section enter user number 83 and click the "Add user to filter" button. Short of that, you could simply not link words to the posts of the user you wish to discourage.

Since you *insist* on only responding to threads posted here...

I challenge the entire relevance of the Cafe. It has no place in a scientific Distributed Computing project. It adds nothing to the science or the techniques of crunching.

The entire thing is off topic, and therefor anything posted there is off-topic, and any response to those cannot be deleted for being off-topic without deleting the entire thread, and Cafe.

Perhaps the ONLY relevant thread here is this one, but only because this project refuses to follow the BOINC standard and provide access to Moderators through the red 'x' at the bottom of each post.

You said there is no ban on images in the the threads, but then proceed to delete my images. You are engaging in discriminatory censorship, based on my minority opinion.

If the users want to block images, that is an option in the Message Board Preferences. I suggest they exercise it, and quit stomping on my posts.

I take a very personal affront with the messages relating my Scottish heritage name with the exit of the bowel. Those are highly offensive, and much more deserving of a deletion or ban than any picture of canned meat that I might post.

Proudly Banned from Predictator@Home and now Cosmology@home as well. Added SETI to the list today. Temporary ban only - so need to work harder :)

Angus -You don't take offense at the anatomy of the back end of a certain animal, so much as you take the pleasure in flooding our forums with your stupid picture followed by long strings of text to the same effect.

Thats what offends me and others. Why else do you think you were ganged up on in the various threads? If you behaved like a normal person and knocked this cow patty nonsense off then you wouldn't be having so many people mad at you.

Mod- Sorry it was not a mod that made the no pictures comment, it was another user. none the less the other issue stated above was the main problem.

Angus - you have made the ignore list as well

Angus, as you point out, the main purpose here is the science. I will not be asking other users to further modify their settings in ways that will inhibit their learning about the science. And therefore will be moderating in a mannar that does not assume one must block certain content which has no relevance to the thread.

I have deleted the two posts which you referenced, as you point out, they were namecalling.

As for whether the Cafe board should exist at all, the Project Team decided that it should.

Just because I delete posts that contained images does not at all imply that this was the reason for their deletion. They were disruptive to the thread and in several cases the text around the image caused the margins of the thread to be extended.

Your signiture proudly boasts about being banned, and being a bad BOINC user. It also invites others not only to consider anatomical parts which sound similar to your fine family name, but to KISS them! If you wish for the participants in a word association thread to NOT bring up such topics, I'd suggest you either not post there, or change your signiture to be less offsensive to everyone.

If you wish to maintain your good family name, I suggest you make nice with the locals. You began your return to the Rosetta boards with offsenses to the Moderators, and you now stand out as the only user I feel I must consistently monitor. But I will not be doing that for long. I would much rather be using my time in ways that are constructive for the project, not constantly cleaning up the trash that others have strewn about. If your posts continue to require moderation, I will recommend your account be banned from posting to the boards. And you can grumble to yourself about it all over MySpace if you like.

[edit]About your comments on the red X, that is a topic which bears further discussion. It's not something I can directly control as a moderator, but I can make recommendations to the Project Team. Perhaps you could start a thread explaining your point and why it is needed in the Number Crunching board.

While I am not going to make a federal case out of it, I will state for the record that there was no intent to insult anyone's heritage, and accordingly the wordlink was not "namecalling".

However, if mods feel the potential for mis-understanding is too great, I do not object to the deletion.

I would remind everyone that the thread was entitled WordLink, and my wordlink was a legitimate response to the previous word "spam".

While other countries in the world may relish Hormel's spam as a culinary delight, here in the States, its reputation is not so esteemed, as reflected by its ingredients and my wordlink.

Wikipedia: "Spam is a canned precooked meat product made by the Hormel Foods Corporation. The labeled ingredients in the Classic variety of Spam are: chopped pork shoulder meat with ham meat added, salt, water, sugar, and sodium nitrite. It has gained a peculiar infamy, along with something of a place in pop culture, and has even entered into folklore and urban legend.

Since fresh meat was difficult to get to the soldiers on the front, World War II saw the largest use of Spam. GIs started eating Spam for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. (Some soldiers referred to Spam as "ham that didn't pass its physical" and "meatloaf without basic training.")

Many jocular backronyms have been devised, such as "Something Posing As Meat"

'nuf said.

EDIT --> I will apologize to Angus for any perceived insult he felt. And if a response such as mine (a definition from a dictionary) was in any other thread other than WordLink, I would likely agree that it would not be legitimate. However, when you post the word "spam" in a WordLink, you shouln't be overly surprised with what the legitimate responses could be.

I have to agree with Penguin on this matter and add that it was not so much the word spam but the way it was being presented by the person I have now filtered out. Again, as mod. sense was saying earlier, he was pushing our buttons and being generally disruptive to the community. Not only in word link but in last one to post here wins - the original. His actions lead to a back lash from me and others due to the perceived insult to the integrity of the thread, which in turn leads to a insult to those of us who were having a good time until said user came along with his spam message. Also in wordlink there was no insult or namecalling. It was inline with the words being presented at the time. Perhaps the more conservative types would call it provocative, again it was inline with the words being presented at the time and was posted strictly as fact and a word, nothing more. Wounded ego's have no place in a forum where we the other users are having a enjoyable time.

If the moderator wishes to erase the perceived insults, it is within his right to do so. His explanation was nice to read, versus just deletion and no explanation. But again, someone had to bring up the fact that the user in question was being disruptive, which leads to the disruptive messages being removed. Perhaps that is better, so that others do not get caught up in this mess.

Now, since we are done with this user and some of us have elected to filter him out of our screens, we should get back to what we were doing....having fun.

I think it's wonderful that the project has so many extra resources that they can have a play area for two or three people to have their little word-play games and post-count-pumping last-post-wins threads. Actually, it appears that the majority of the active threads in the Cafe are the personal playground for only two users (who have posted below).

Your signiture (sic) proudly boasts about being banned, and being a bad BOINC user.

If you were following the Trojan censoring scandal at Predictor, you would recognize this image as support for all those users wrongly banned from that forum.

About your comments on the red X, that is a topic which bears further discussion. It's not something I can directly control as a moderator, but I can make recommendations to the Project Team. Perhaps you could start a thread explaining your point and why it is needed in the Number Crunching board.

I'm not going to post about this AGAIN on Number Crunching just to give you another chance to whack me down for not posting in the Moderator thread.
This is a standard BOINC forum feature that only needs a configuration entry made to point red 'x' complaints to an email account for moderators to look at.

Go back 420+ days in this thread to see the discussion, then click the red 'x' youself to see the BOINC provided explanation of why it isn't working.

since the filter doesn't seem to work, i think i will reply to poor poor angus's little hissy fit.

dude, get a life. we would welcome you if you would be more positive and would quit complaining like a spoil sport.

while there are two of us being a bit more vocal than the others, we are here to have fun. if you can't have fun what the ---- are you doing here in the cafe anyway?

and if you look at some of the other threads there are more than just two of us having FUN here.

so sorry to say this, but take your spoil sport soul somewhere else and let those of us who are here to have fun, have fun.

end of story
