Message 72399 - Posted: 27 Feb 2012, 14:34:47 UTC - in response to Message 72396.

Well, by the fact that the overall project Teraflops appear normal, and that I see my own work units uploading, I can infer a few things. While several others were having upload problems earlier, they seem to be resolved now. And the upload problems that have come up have been with specific servers. So it becomes a random shot as to whether your specific task tries to go to a server that is having a problem.

Because your machines are hidden, I'm not certain what OS you are running. Nor can I get any perspective on whether all of your uploads are failing or only a portion of them.

It sounds to me like there must be something specific about your environment. Since your machine is able to contact the server and get more work, it shows BOINC is able to contact the scheduler. Are you at home (where you would have defined all firewall rules), or at work?

I would suggest you enable the file transfer debug to see more specific details about what is going on during the upload attempts. The FAQ about cc_config.xml describes how to enable the file transfer debug. Be sure to review it carefully, you must add at least the three directives mentioned. Beyond that, the ones you want are called file_xfer & file_xfer_debug. And the 0|1 notation is meant to show that you can chose a zero (to disable the file transfer debug msgs) or a one to enable them. So your file will need at least a start and end, plus a line for <task>
<file_xfer>
<sched_ops>
and two like these:
<file_xfer>1</file_xfer>
<file_xfer_debug>1</file_xfer_debug>

Once you have updated or created your cc_config.xml, you have to go in to BOINC Manager and tell it to read the config file. From then on, your file transfers will place detailed messages in the event log.

You might post the details of what you find to the thread you opened specifically for the upload problem.

Thank you for your answer Mod.Sence.
I am at home and have the same firewall (F Secure) and settings for all PC's.
Currently all PC run Windows, the one with the problem has BOINC 6.10.60 and Windows Vista Home Primium, its an AMD quad with 8GB memory.
It runs Einstein@home and MilkyWay@home flawlessly but Rosetta not. Rosetta runs smooth, but files won't upload. I do get new ones. Currently the PC is down. I first thought it was the firewall so I put that off for a day to se what happend, nothing. I was thinking on my system, still do a bit, because the other machines upload Rosetta normally. But as E@H and M@H work normal and upload, BOINC , the network and the firewall cannot be the issue. Agreed?
Greetings,
TJ.

I would never say a firewall cannot be an issue. Indeed it could be specifically configured to prevent access to the specific Rosetta server you need... but I would certainly agree that the odds are significantly diminished with that info.

Has that machine been rebooted since you had the problem? Sometimes a DNS resolution gets trashed or Windows TCP gets itself into odd problems.

No it hasn't been rebooted, there you are right.
I will see what happend over a few days when I am free to turn my pc's on to crunch. I will let you know.

Greetings,

I need to delete this account because I had forgotten which email address I was using when I originally signed up many years ago. When I set up to use GridRepublic as a Boinc manager I used the email address I currently use and it created this new account. All of my points and other data are with my old account.

Once this account is deleted I can then change the email address associated with old one.

Thank you,
Keetara

Keetara, you are going to have to go the other direction. Modify the new Rosetta account changing the EMail address to something else, or one that does not exist. Then change the old account to have the new EMail address.

There is no specific account deletion.

Is there a way to set my Mac so that Rosetta will only run when I'm away from my computer at night? I'd like to run from 10:00pm to 6:30am each week day and it can run all day on Saturday and Sunday.

I don't have a Mac around, but I imagine the steps will be the same:

First, if you're in 'simple view' you will want to switch Boinc to 'Advanced' view via the menu (View->Advanced View):

Second, you'll need to open up Computing Preferences:

Lastly, in the 'Processor Usage' tab, you have options to set what times of day for any given weekday BOINC is allowed to crunch (note that the times should be in HH:MM-HH:MM, so in your case of wanting it to run from 10:00pm until 6:30am, you would input '22:00-06:30'):

Hope that helps.

ERM just had a moment.

if i look at something for ages my eyes go weird. Both the searching and accepted merged together, i carried on watching , it changed then went back to the merged.(not boz eyed). is there any tech what can video this. both of them seem to link together and join 1 protein, without seeing both i dont think this is possible.

Cheers

As the search progresses and finds a solution that is better than the prior best the task has found, it becomes "accepted". At that point-in-time they are the same. Then the search continues exploring.

Any tool that captures video of your screen image would work. One such tool I've seen is called Camtasia.

When I first started using Rosetta@home, my tasks window in boinc said Rosetta@home. After the domain name crash and restart, it now says Rosetta Mini. Is that the same or am I running something different now. If so, how do I go back to running Rosetta@home in the tasks window. Thanks all

The tasks window has a column for the project you are running, and another for the application. The project here is Rosetta@home, the application is Rosetta Mini (with a version number).

Nothing has changed on these points.

After running Rosetta@home for several days, I now have no work units. I have updated resource share to give Rosetta 200 and SETI 100. After doing an update command I still have no work units. Is the project out of work?

Yes, the project backlog of work is currently exhausted.

As a new user, you should know that this is an uncommon situation for R@h.

It is being discussed in this thread.

In what way ist this related to Rosetta@home? https://www.ipd.uw.edu/2017/09/designs-on-new-world-of-mini-protein-therapeutics/

I've reposted the question here.

I believe R@h is used to develop the software that is used to compute these mini-proteins. The reference you make is to the same Institute for Protein Design that David Baker and BakerLab has become. So it is definitely the same researchers. Since R@h is not specifically mentioned in the referenced Nature article, that would indicate to me that other computing resources were used for that specific research. But the origins of the software being used can always be tied back to R@h, since R@h has been used to develop the rosetta software for a decade. In a sense, R@h is used to develop the tools. These tools can then be used in many ways. It sounds like these mini-proteins and targeted therapeutics is one recent use of the tools.

Check back on the thread I linked above and see if we get a more specific answer to your question.

Hello

my team and I are developing an innovative approach to web-based distributed computing that is up to 6 times faster than JavaScript through using Emscripten, WebAssembly and ASM.JS

We would love to collaborate with Rosetta@home and could even handle converting the code to the needs of our platform.
However I can not find any contact to the researchers.
If anyone can help me, here or via l.langgartner@gmail.com, that would be great!

with kind regards
Lorenz
