I have an issue with the following machine https://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/show_host_detail.php?hostid=526796 It will not download more than around 4 WUs at a time. I have tried detaching/reattaching. Have uninstalled/reinstalled. Uninstalled (then deleted leftover files) and reinstalled. No joy. In the "daily quota" section it shows "Maximum daily WU quota per CPU 100/day". I have an identical machine at the same location which has a nice cache of work. Any ideas? My hunch is low disk space on the same drive BOINC is installed on - however my prefs "should" override this.... |

If the cause is low disk space, there will be a message on the messages tab that indicates this. For reference, this thread discusses several reasons you may not be getting new work. All the facts are relevant for any two or more BOINC projects, I just put SETI in the subject line because SETI was down for several days and I knew that would be a question for many. Are you also crunching other BOINC projects? Does your message indicate there are xxx seconds of work being requested from Rosetta as shown in the thread referenced above? What is the connect every xxx number of days set to in your General Preferences? Rosetta Moderator: Mod.Sense |

If the cause is low disk space, there will be a message on the messages tab that indicates this. To answer the questions: No mention about low disk space in messages. I have set it to connect from 6 - 10 days in general prefs (for testing), and messages state it is requesting loads (same as other machine) of work. Rosetta is the only project the machine in question is attached to. I suspect it is due to low space - even though the message tab isn't showing anything. My conclusion is that I have two IDENTICAL machines I crunch on, one has plenty of disk space and has plenty of work.....the other is the one I posted about. |

If you are downloading that many days of work because the machine will not have internet access for a while, you might consider raising your runtime preference. This is in your Rosetta Preferences. It will let you crunch up to 24hrs on a single downloaded task. So you'd only need 10 tasks to keep you busy for 10 days. Keep in mind that the deadlines are 10 days, so you'll want to plan to connect before the deadlines. If it meets with your requirements, you might also adjust your General Preferences for the amount of disk space BOINC is allowed to use. Or adjust the minimum amount that it must leave remaining. Try this even just temporarily to confirm if indeed that is the problem with this machine. Don't forget to update to the project for the changes to take effect. Rosetta Moderator: Mod.Sense |

I will try the whole 24hr WU idea next time I access that machine. Oh, and it is connected to the net 24/7 as well. |

Oh, and it is connected to the net 24/7 as well. Which leads me to ask why you are trying to handle 6-10 days of work in the first place? Such a thing is normally done by people on dial-up connections with machines that do not connect to the internet very frequently. Rosetta Moderator: Mod.Sense |

Oh, and it is connected to the net 24/7 as well. Which leads me to point out that one of the main features of BOINC is that it has a caching facility in case the project is down for maintenance/uncontactable for any reason. |
