I'm curious. Is there a web site that will translate either of those phrases? And is there a link to a page about the bowl's discovery and why it is considered unique?

Translating it to "Bücherdeutsch" (something, a friend from Finnland told me about) it sure would be something like "Ich modere, also bin ich" - translated back to English that would be "I rot, therefore I am" - I wonder if that's really what it means ;-)

I do not feel that moderators should have to use a specific avatar at all, afterall moderators are individuals and not word filter robots, part of the server side scripts or programs.

Making the text "Forum moderator" stick out or have an additional icon or a different background color for the "Author" column entry should be sufficient to ring the bell when they appear, the personal choice of the avatar should not be limited.

Maybe use a small animated bell icon :-)

Well English/Merkens, who by definition hardly speak a foreign language (its not in their culture), think they can get away with Babelfish.....happen to have a diploma Hoch-Deutsch and Duden is in my Library....it should be "Ich moderiere"

I thought the forum moderators were just that, 'moderators' nothing else.
Their real member name should be used for any opinionated and general chatting. With the moderator account to be used for any moderating. At least that is the way it used to be here at Rosetta@Home.

They should forget who they are when being a moderator (as much as they can). They should not take sides, or have an opinion of their own ;-) They should moderate to what bakerlab/Rosetta@home expect off them.
Hence they need a Mod identity.


Of course that never quite happens :-) But an easy way to notice it is an authorative moderator or Admin (or project/dev etc) would be to have a Rosetta branding. And they have their real identity to not be a robot with :-)

Like you walk into a shop or cafe and you know who the staff are.


P.S. Though it does not mean they all have to be the same, maybe the Rosetta logo with differing text.
