A few people have mentioned that they'd like us to have an Avatar that makes us obvious. I've been told to ask for your help. Like the mice in the story, please offer suggestions. If you're artistic, feel free to share your vision. The goal is to draw attention to the phrase under our name. To prove that we're not normal users. Keep in mind the ideas need to be appropriate for the board. Creative and stunning is good. Something more practical than giving a Circle K brand to a relative moving onto a farm. And sending them a pic of The Circle K Boneless Chicken Ranch. Let's see your ideas on how to draw attention to our title. Forcing people to learn Latin is probably out. Well, if nothing else works out you could consider (briefly) using the following that I've also *temporarily* attached as avatar to my account: (Joke, joke!!) :-) |

With such an avatar, it's sure that everybody will think twice before saying something ;) |

None of which will work for all those that have avatars turned off by default. Maybe the UserId should be a different color, or there should be a large obvious symbol in the profile area -similar to the green stars at SETI. Maybe a bloody hatchet? ;) Proudly Banned from Predictator@Home and now Cosmology@home as well. Added SETI to the list today. Temporary ban only - so need to work harder :) "You can't fix stupid" (Ron White) |

I agree with at least the first parts of Angus`s post. USERID a different colour or a stronger/bolder font for the pertinant parts of the ID. Maybe a star next to the profile silouhette. Not all Czech`s bounce but I`d like to try with Barbar ;-) Make no mistake This IS the TEDDIES TEAM. |

Or is having "mod" in front of the user name enough? I think the other suggestions so far all require changes to the BB server software. This makes them less likely to happen. Or just post in a different color, to make moderator text jump out The scientists can use their color And one for Dr. Baker edit: I suppose that wouldn't make the 'moderator' below your name jump out, but it'd make it very easy to find/notice your posts in a long thread. If a text is colored, it's easy to look at the name and confirm the tag under it. |

Or just post in a different color, to make moderator text jump out Whatever you decide to do, just make sure that you all do it consistently. Most people will "figure it out" in a reasonable amount of time, but if you keep changing the rules, it, very quickly, loses effectiveness. |

I for one do not like posting in bold dark red. When a moderator is just posting to help someone out with a question, I feel it makes them feel... well... moderated, rather then assisted. Since some omit the avitars, and some omit signitures, and those are the two things we can easily change and standardize, how about if we come up with a standard "Rosetta Moderator" avitar, and make a dark red signiture line (such as mine below... if you're displaying signitures). If you're not displaying either of those, then you're basically going to have to notice the "mod..." handle of the poster. Rosetta Moderator: Mod.Sense |

No - I think the "red" or otherwise noticeable text color is perfect. Proudly Banned from Predictator@Home and now Cosmology@home as well. Added SETI to the list today. Didn't Moderator9 use bold red type for his posts? I always found it to be not so much hostile as authoritative. Easy to spot, easy to read, and always consistent. Whatever type style is chosen by the new mods, it should be all of the above. Regards, -- Tony |

Please dont post in coloured text. It does my eyes in. The dark red MOD sig is fine though. |

I for myself would not like to post in bold dark red or in a specific color. I agree a similar avatar would be fine and a sig which clarifies the mod status as well. I think the avatars should still be different although sharing a common theme as to show the moderator status but still that each mod has it's own style. I am a forum moderator! Am I? |

I've always liked teal, it soothing and calming without screaming even when bold. However, having to type [ color=teal] insert text[/ color] every time you post is a pain. |

A good avatar (like the Rosetta branded one you have now) The sig you have now (since you read that inline with the text) Also highlighting the Forum moderator part and making it stand out (not everyone knows what MOD.Whatever means, we do as we're old handers at this.) If you need a fix for the last bit, ask at Pirates@Home or the Dev list. Or maybe some of the board hakers here can come up with an easy way (I know on other board software it's not such a problem) Also this should apply to the Administrators (David et al.) since there post really do seem to get lost in all the talk. This is NOT Mod tymbrimi, but mmciastro. I think only thing you are missing - is forum status under your name. But even without it you defenetely look like Mod.Tymbrimi for me. TestPilot, AKA Administrator |

It has been mentioned before and I think it is the best idea, however we need to get Janus or the guys at Pirates interested: Making the moderator's username a different color from a normal username. Along these lines having the post show up a different color when a mod has posted in it would also help. BOINC WIKI BOINCing since 2002/12/8 |

Okay mmciastro has in an impressive manner highlighted some weaknesses of the current forum design. Anybody can give himself a name, sig and avatar as he likes and there is no prevention from somebody to rename his account into Mod.Tymbrini for example, use the same avatar and sig and pretend to be Mod-Tymbrini. So the only non-fakeable distinction is this tiny little title below your user name: Forum moderator. mmciastro posting as Mod.Tymbrini, with his avatar deluded even me so that I hesitated to delete the posts. Well, there is nothing we can do about it, just delete it if somebody is doing it. I am a forum moderator! Am I? |

Actually, I could put "forum moderator" in in photoshop. Use an account that has NO credit, and the only diff would be post count, userID, and join date. thanks for cleaning up my mess. |
