I have both a pc (win XP) and a Mac. My Mac runs rosetta just fine and I thought I would get it up and running on my pc as well but I am having some difficulty. I am able to attach the project but under the message tab it says "suspending computation- user is active" and "suspending network activity- user is active" and rosetta will not run.

Hi Anthony,

this sometimes happens. The problem seems to be that BOINC projects have the lowest priority among the threads running on a PC and are only executed when everything else is stopped. Sometimes the paradox situation arises that e.g. Rosetta or its screen saver being started causes the machine to assess a running process and terminate the BOINC project.

Try to go to your account, there to the "general preferences" and set "DO Work While computer is in use" to "Yes". Then go to your BOINC manager and update the Rosetta project and see what happens after some time.

If this does not fix the problem, you may have some background process (like a real-time virus scan) that is always assigned as running or that tries to scan the ROsetta data stream live. This may cause the problem (although it is very rare).

Regards,

Christoph

Christoph, this fixed the problem. Thank you. Now it seems that I have encountered another problem. The screensaver only pops up for a second, then shutsdown. I can't seem to keep the screensaver to stay running. Any suggestions?

thanks, Anthony

Hi Anthony,

there have been issues with the screensaver in the latest ROsetta versions, but I haven't seen that problem until yet, so I cannot tell anything regarding it.

You might want to post it in the threads shown here under the appropriate Rosetta version you are running (should be 5.25, I'd say, at least that is what all my Work Units say in the BOINC manager's tasks tab).

By the way, the "Q&A" section will soon be taken offline , that is the reason while there are only a few people looking in here regularly. So the best place to post new questions is the Number Crunching forum. Getting an answer there is much more propable.

Regards,

Christoph
