After a hiatus of a few years I'm trying to return to Rosetta@home, with little success. I have an AMD Ryzen 7 2700x with NVIDIA 1660 GPU card. While Rosetta remembered my ID, all software on the box was gone because of a clean install of Ubuntu 24.04. After installing BOINC, the guidelines said me sign up for Science United, at which point I discovered that Science United had signed me up for dozens of BOINC projects, and was already running several, but not Rosetta@home. I then tried to delete my account from Science United. When I then tried to run the BOINC app rather than Science United, I got the error "Invalid client RPC password. Try reinstalling BOINC." So I tried that, but when I completely deleted (or so I thought) and reinstalled BOINC, I got the message that another instance of BOINC was already running. So I've come full circle. I'm happy to provide some resources for Rosetta@home, but the process so far is not encouraging.

I now have BOINC installed (couldn't guess what the problem was), but now it does nothing. Here is an excerpt from the log file

Fri 20 Dec 2024 08:37:58 AM EST | | Internet access OK - project servers may be temporarily down.

The log file has many repeats of these messages. My internet connection is working, boinc-client is working, no other error messages that I can see.

Over in the crunching message are there was quite a discussion about this. Someone, not me, discovered that if the line:
128.95.160.156 boinc-files.bakerlab.org
Is added to the /etc/hosts file it gets rid of the error message, and yet some people say it isn't necessary.

In any event, at the moment there's no work available. The servers bounce up and down like a kangaroo. OK, they seem to run for 4 or 5 days to a week and then drop dead for 3 or 4 days. Right at this moment they just came back on-line but aren't pushing out work.
