I just installed rosetta and it seems to be downloading twice as much work as it can handle. I have an i3 that is on for about 8 hours a day . Rosetta seems to be able to to work on 4 tasks at a time which seem to be on track to finish by their due date but there are 4 more waiting "Ready to Start" that will almost certainly not be finished computing by the time their due date comes around (all work units are due on Feb 19)

Does failure to submit work units by the due date shown in BOINC hurt anything? If so, anyone have any idea what I should do about that?

It can happen when you first join the project. More a Boinc issue than a Rosetta one.
Once you successfully complete a few tasks, it'll right itself.
There are a lot of dodgy tasks going through just at the moment too - hopefully they'll be removed quickly
