One of the things that is limiting my R@H is that I switch my computer between windows and manjaro (an arch linux based operating system). Is it possible to power my computer off from windows mid task, and power on to manjaro, so that manjaro then continues the work on said task? Thanks a lot for any and all help :) Meat, fish, dairy and eggs all cause incredible harm to the animals that are used to make those products, and a vast amount of ecosystems. NO it is not possible, there are security checks due to past cheating at various projects. One idea would be to run the task at night so you can finish the task before you have to do all the switching, then in the morning just stop the task and pick it up again when you are done switching. |

Can you not run Boinc under each os separately, each with its own tasks so that whichever side you’re on you’re processing? I mean of course I can, but I was hoping not to because I don't want to get half way through a task and then switch away from it, switch back to it, and then find I'm past the deadline :/ NO it is not possible, there are security checks due to past cheating at various projects. One idea would be to run the task at night so you can finish the task before you have to do all the switching, then in the morning just stop the task and pick it up again when you are done switching. That's a shame. I hope I don't miss deadlines because of this. Alternatively is there a way to extend a deadline if I'm near to completing a task but about to go over the allotted time due to that operating system being powered down? Sad to hear people cheating, the whole point of this is medical research. Alternatively is there a way to extend a deadlineNope. A certain time after the deadline passes, a copy of the Work Unit will be sent to another system. If you return your result before that copy is returned, you will get Credit for it. However it if you return it after the other one, it will count as an error "Returned after deadline" and no credit. One of the things that is limiting my R@H is that I switch my computer between windows and manjaro (an arch linux based operating system). The other option would be to setup a VM and run one of the OSs on the VM. Of course there will performance penalties for Rosetta & the VM doing this. If you do this on your i7, and upgrade to at least 32GB of RAM and carefully setup the number of cores/threads available to the VM & available to BOINC, the performance penalty could probably be reduced to a very small amount. Alternatively is there a way to extend a deadlineNope. Sadly I'm not really in a position to do that at least - yet, I think the other option might be that I just try and stay logged on to my linux account more and only use my windows one for gaming. It would be the first real reason for me to ever go beyond 16GB of RAM! Nice research on my previous threads by the way! At least I assume that's where you got the information about my hardware :P .
