In my Rosetta preferences on the website, I can only see a tick for CPU work - fair enough, that's all Rosetta has, they don't do GPUs. But.... my Boinc client keeps asking for GPU work. Since I can't turn that off at the project end, I assume nobody else has either (unless they've fiddled around with config files), so the Rosetta servers must be dealing with lots of requests for non-existant GPU work. If this is a negligible load on the servers, then nevermind. If it is a significant load, could the server not be set to default to "no" for GPU work, so our clients don't keep asking for it? |

What makes it weirder - under project properties... Don't request tasks for Intel GPU yet the event log indicates that the client continues to ask. |

Projects tab - select Rosetta - Hit "Properties" on the Command menu. Scroll down to the bottom of the pop-up window - ta da. |

Huh. Weird. Here's a screenshot from snipping tool - Ah, I forgot I don't use Boinc Manager, I use Boinc Tasks (far more colourful and easy to use, plus if you have more than one machine they're all on one screen). My normal Boinc Manager does show the same as yours. So I agree - odd, it's not obeying its own instruction. |

Huh. Weird. Here's a screenshot from snipping tool - ah rip. That's what I get for being one of the new kids, lol. I'll give it a download, see if it works for me. But yes - it seems the BOINC Client is contradicting itself for funzies. That's not fun. I might have to head over to the BOINC forums and see if the issue is being brought up there. |

This is an old thread, but I believe this cc_config flag still works. However, it would mean your machine would not get GPU tasks at some future date when the project supports GPU. Rosetta Moderator: Mod.Sense |

If it's not causing a problem for the Rosetta servers, probably best to leave alone on the client end. I'm not sure how often it ends up asking. I thought it might be very often on mine for example, since I don't actually run any projects on the Intel GPU [1], so it would be constantly trying to get them from Rosetta. P.S. at a VERY rough estimate, your servers must be getting close to a gigabit/second of data streaming in when at full capacity? I saw one of my completed uploads at 30MB, then did some rough calculations in my head. [1] Because I've found it doesn't do any more flops than just leaving it as a normal CPU. The CPU part slows down when the GPU part is running. |

The Boinc client has a lot of weird things going on. It's strange more work isn't put into it. |

I saw one of my completed uploads at 30MB, then did some rough calculations in my head. I was just considering the average throughput. A continuous 1Gbit is quite a lot of data, both to process scientifically at your end, and for the university to jump up and down and say you're using it all up! I haven't worked in a university since 2002, so I guess the backbones are way larger nowadays. I got told off for continuously using 1Mbit! |

Seems it only does it on a user invoked scheduler request. Must be a Boinc bug, and since the automatic requests aren't doing it, I guess it's not a problem for the Rosetta servers. |

I noticed early this morning when I came in from work that my dual VEGA 56 GPUs are being worked. Reference blower VEGAs have LED strips above the power plug that fully illuminate when they are being used. The lights on both GPUs are fully lit right now. |

I didn't know they had GPU work yet. I have 3 machines running (the 4th is waiting for me to fix it) with Rosetta on CPU. But none have succeeded in getting GPU work from Rosetta, they're doing Einstein and Milkyway. |

There is no GPU work here. So well, no, that video card was not running Rosetta. |

Just picked up a Xeon CPU for £7! |

Don't forget that there are also nVidia and AMD GPU's, too. |

Don't forget that there are also nVidia and AMD GPU's, too. Yes, I have 5 AMD GPUs. But Rosetta doesn't support those yet either. They're currently blasting through Einstein and Milkyway. If Rosetta could get a GPU app working, they'd get huge amounts done very quickly. |
