Hi all, I have been running rosetta@home, on and off for about 10 years, but i am one of those quiet users, who does not really get involved in the group so much, so i know fairly little i suppose.

I was just wondering, about my task list, today i noticed that two tasks are partially complete, but, boinc has started 2 other tasks, further down the list, once i have re started this little machine?

I find it quite highly annoying, as i would like it to work , in order, and when , if i turn this machine off, it should start up the allready started tasks once boinc starts up again

Could anyone instruct me, how to "make" it resume those tasks, and not start new ones, for no reason that i can see myself?

Thank you for your reading this, and i hope my wording is not abrasive, i have high functioning asbergers *ASD*, so when i am frustrated, my urgancy can look a little agressive, i truely do not wish to be agressive in any fashion :)

Mod.Sense - I recall an issue like that a few years ago. What version of BOINC Manager are you running? I believe newer versions improved the odds of tasks running nicely in order.

One case where it still may not is when memory is limited. If the active tasks exceeds the memory preference, sometimes BOINC Manager fires up a different task in hopes that it may be able to run in less memory. Since BOINC Manager already knows how much memory the first task desired to have available, it might bypass it if it doesn't have enough memory available to activate it.

So i imagine it may be perhaps due to my preferances, which i set up, i cannot remember when exactly but, it may be because of my settings?

It is version 7.4.42 (x64)

And the problem is on my litle netbook, a duel core celery *celeron* netbook, with 4gb ddr3

The problem does not happen on my Xeon x3360 also with only 4gb ram, which is turned off quite a lot, due to it not being particularly energy efficient

I suspect it may be something to do with my preferances?

Both machines are running windoze 8.1 *windows lol*

Any help, or info at all will be gladly looked at and used :)

If it's an issue with rosetta not having sufficient memory then you'd see the task that is paused indicate something like this:


It can also simply be due to the due dates of the tasks and the estimated time remaining to complete them. If a less finished task has a similar due-date and is not moving forward, it may be given a bump in priority.

Lastly, for good measure you can check your memory preferences in BOINC manager under Tools->Computing Preferences->Memory tab (I believe, don't have it in front of me at the moment) - maybe check the memory usage settings, see if the percentage of memory to use is too low, etc.

It appears to have at somepoint, resumed the allready started tasks, so it looks like everything is ok now, thanks a lot though :)

Yes, we forgot to point this out previously, but it will go back to the other tasks eventually and get them done as their respective deadlines approach. There is no need to process tasks in order, but it certainly seems more tidy. But, doing nothing yields a good outcome as well :)
