Can anyone help me visualize the relationship between so many CPU workunits and the complete characterization of a protein?

I just mean that I've been crunching awhile and I have no idea of the scale of my personal efforts. I enjoy Rosetta, and I've been curious for awhile about how much computing power it takes to, say, come up with a satisfactory CASP protein prediction. I imagine it changes dramatically with changing goals, but there are probably generalizations you can make, order-of-magnitude wise, about a run-of-the-mill protein with so-many amino acids involved. Or maybe not. Who knows? I don't.

As computers get better, will Rosetta swallow up all those advances to do bigger and better things?
