When I try to connect to a project (have tried a few) I get the response

Message from server: platform '' not found

I've searched a little, and most people seem to have their cpu info in between the ''. I guess the program failed to recognize my cpu. Can I set it manually somewhere and what is it supposed to be?

My cpu is an AMD 64 and I am running debian linux. I installed boinc using apt.

Your other machines look like new installs as well. Is it safe to assume that you just recently downloaded the current Linux version of BOINC?

No, it seems to be an older version actually, 5.4.11-4. I'll try to manually install the newest version now.

Edit: Thanks for your help, I think it's working now. At least it's running, we'll see if it can complete. :)

I had to install the package ia32-libs in order to start it.

I run Kubuntu but i had a similar issue a while back (actually i think it was 5.4.11 64 bit version). Back then it was a compile issue. fixed by upgrading to 5.8.x obviously your running 32 bit boinc on a 64 bit system if you need ia32libs.
