With the recent release of 4.82 how long should it take to get to 1% with this style of wu -> PRODUCTION_ABINITIO_INCREASECYCLES50_1tul__312_1645. I had some initial wu's that were quite quick, but I have seen a change.

My 3.2GHz HT machine is currently over 1hr and still at 1%.

I also have the same style of wu on the same machine at 53.22% (BOINC had been stopped and started so this looks like a checkpoint) and it is at over 5hrs cpu time. The %complete also did not increase while the cpu time was increasing once I restarted BOINC (thanks windows updates - grr).

I am also seeing the total memory usage (real and virtual) hitting 1.2GB with 2 wu's running and at around 700MB with 1 wu running. Is this also "normal"?

I have suspended Rosetta for the moment.

Live long and crunch.

Depending on how the Wu is configured, I have seen some that have over 1,500,000 steps in the first model and still have not reached 1%. This took over 5 hours of CPU time. I also know there are a few larger ones out there.

As to the percentages. The time settings in your preferences have a lot to do with what the jumps will be as the WU progresses. If you have your time set to say 2 hours, and one of the large Wus comes along, it is possible for it to run for over five hours showing 1%, and suddenly jump to 100% and finish. If the Wu is one of the smaller ones, running with the same settings, it might only run 5 min or less, doing about 35,000 steps for each model, and the percent will jump to something like 5% and keep rising until it hits about 1 hour and 55 mins and finishes.

So the best advice I can give you is to look at the graphic display and see what is going on every so often on these longer ones.

David Kim has said he is working on "leveling" all of this out so there is not so much variation. Those Wu should start appearing soon.

As to the specifics of memory usage on your system, it varies from system to system. but on average It might use as much as 1/4 of the real memory. Virtual memory varies some with work unit size and the point in the process when you check it.

One more thing to add to Moderator9's excellent reply. Some of the "PRODUCTION_ABINITIO_INCREASECYCLES50" jobs take *much* longer than others, potentially up to 8 hours to get the first structure, and it looks like The Gas Giant got one of those. We understand that these can cause some concern! Because we've received nearly enough information back for those runs, we're planning to not queue any more of those jobs. And we're planning to make sure that each future job takes less time, so that the progress won't seem stuck at 1%, because several jobs will be carried out in 8 hours.

Many thanks for the reply. I now feel more comfortable and will hit resume as soon as I get home in a couple of hours.
