Nasher asked:

I know moderator 9 and 8 and such are out there but i was wondering if there was a way to send private messages to them or to other users or such.

if you want to send me an e-mail my account is "Nashr at hotmail dot com" please include eithor Boinc or Rosetta in your subject so i know its concerning these projects and such.

some topics i would like to discuss with people personaly and would hate to post it here or such cause it dosnt belong here or in some cases may not fit the form guidlines.

just curious

At this time there is no way to contact Moderators via e-mail. There has been some discussion of the idea on this thread and this thread.

While there are a number of merits to the idea, there are also a number of problems. I would have no problem with setting something up for this purpose, but I think the project Administrators might have some thoughts on the issue. I will ask them about this and if they think it is a good idea then maybe something can be set up.

For now the fastest way to bring something to our attention is by posting it here. This of course would be public as you have pointed out. I agree that their should be a way for people to hold conversations with the moderators off line. We just don't have it worked out yet.

{Moderator note: I modified your e-mail address in this reply to prevent sniffers from picking it up. You may want me to delete your original post for this same purpose, but I will not do so unless you ask me to.}

humm...

i dont have the ability to delete the post

i dont have the ability to edit the post (since its been longer than 60 min since i wrote it).

sure remove the e-mail address. i cant edit it

as far as people latching onto my e-mail and sending spam to it.. thats why i have a hotmail account...i didnt post my normal used account for that reason.. if a person i want to talk to sends me an e-mail via my hotmail account i will normaly send the response from one of my normal accounts instead.

EDIT-
i noticed that the 100,000,000,000+ message was hidden by admin

This thread has been hidden for administrative purposes

when this is done there is no way for us to see the responses to the thred eithor and i think the response by the project scientists was worthwile to be seen

I can't edit it either because I did not post it. I have deleted it as you asked. The full content of the original post is in my first reply below.

I have posted the reply from David Kim on the other thread where you originally raised the question about the lost post.

As a result of a number of requests from the user community for a method of contacting forum Moderators "off forum", I submitted the concept to David Baker for his consideration. His response was to leave it up to the Moderators as to how they wish to handle the matter. Based on my communications with Dr. Baker, each Moderator will have to decide for themselves if they wish to provide off forum communications to the user community.

While I still have some concerns over protecting the privacy rights of users who may wish to use this form of communications, I feel that it is important to provide a mechanism for people to report certain issues in private.

To that end, I have established an email account that will allow off line contact for Moderator9 only. Other Moderators may or may not provide a similar level of contact.

However, before sending mail to that account, it must be clearly understood that the address of the senders account will be revealed. In addition, certain kinds of requests that are sent to the project team, may be forwarded to this account to be handled as a moderation function, and when that happens, it will be necessary to provide contact information to the Moderator so the issue can be addressed.

To send to the account send an e-mail to
Rosettamod9 at yahoo dot com (replace the "at" and the "dot" with the correct symbols to properly format the address)

I will try to check this account at least daily.
