Has anyone run into any problems running FC4 and the Rosetta app?

I don't have any problems at all with the 2.6.13 smp kernel, however on 2.6.14 and 2.6.15 (obtained via yum update) as soon as the Rosetta app starts the entire PC freezes (no mouse movement, etc). I don't believe it is BOINC, when I started it under 2.6.15, BOINC started and ran benchmarks. As soon as Rosetta started it froze. I have it crunching happily with 2.6.13 right now. Any ideas?

So far, no. Upgraded from FC3 to FC4 over the holidays. Running with the 2.6.14 kernel on an AMD XP2600+. I did a small kernel upgrade a few days ago (also via yum) from 2.6.14-1.1653_FC4 to 2.6.14-1.1656_FC4. After that I did have a few freezes and spotaneous reboots when I ran the solitare game kpat. The game had caused no problems previously and it's been fine as long as I don't try running it now.

I did some googling and I suspect it may be related to a video problem. I've got a video card with the NVidia GeForce 4 chipset. I use the stock nv kernel module. When I get some time I'll try reinstalling the 3D nvidia kernel module to see if that makes a difference. If not, I thought about swapping video cards with another system I have. It has an ATI card in it. I also need to check the various AGP options for the card that you can specify in the xorg.conf file to see if there is something I'm missing.

I had a similar problem a couple of years ago under RedHat9. At that time a lot of googling turned up one report of a similar problem. It was suggested then to remove the "console mouse services" from the startup at boot time. I removed /etc/rc5.d/S85gpm and that seemed to fix the problem.

BTW, I don't use boincmgr on my system. I have a boot script that starts Boinc up for me and redirects all output to a couple of files. Check out the add-on link on the front page and look for boincctl. I contributed that to the community. Then to monitor what's going on I use a web based tool. Again check the add-on area for boincPHP-GUI. It was originally written my the fellow who wrote BoincView. I had some ideas for enhancements so he let me make then and contribute it to the community. The one there is an older version. I need to bundle up what I'm currently using and submit it. It works for me but it may not be suitable for everyone.

Just bundled up version 2.2 and sent it off to the BOINC Download Network at boink.dk. Don't know how long it will be before they spread it around. Meanwhile, you can grab a copy from my server at http://www.dennett.org/Projects
