Hello, I started using BOINC a couple of weeks ago and am currently attached to Rosetta, SETI, and Milky Way. However in the last 2 days Rosetta has been giving me problems. The files download and start to run just fine, but after a certain point they jump backwards and go from there. For example, I ran one this morning that got to 10% and then started over at 0. I ran one yesterday that got to about 28% and then jumped back to 21 and one that wouldn't get past .2%. The runtimes are doing the same thing.

Finally, it's recurring. I ran the one today twice but it jumped back again, and the same for the other ones.

Does anyone else have this problem, know how to fix it, or whether it fixes itself? Thanks!

Sounds like your preferences are set to not keep tasks in memory when they are suspended... and that you are possibly exiting BOINC or rebooting the machine frequently. Further details were discussed earlier in the week. The key terms to better understand are:
Checkpointing and Runtime preference. I think those links will address your questions, otherwise the Number Crunching board is more widely read to ask more about it.

I'm having a similar problem with Rosetta. It stared a couple of months ago and seems to do it on most (but not quite all) Rosetta aplications. They will run somewhere past 51% then start over (never seen it higher than 51.something before I come back and it's restarted). It will do this forever till I cancel it so BOINC can move on to other aplications. This doesn't happen with Seti, Docking or Einstein. I've been running Boinc for many many years now and this is the first time I've seen this happen. It's currently happening as I type this with Aplication: Rosetta Mini 3.45 Name: endo_aa_Gn1.run.14_SAVE_ALL_OUT_IGNORE_THE_REST_67584_918_0
I'm running BONIC 7.0.28 on Windos XP.

How long is your machine powered on and running BOINC during the day? How many times do you see a task reset before you abort it? (if a task finds itself restarting at the same point for any reason, 5 times, it should terminate itself with no intervention).

My computer is powered on 24/7 and I have BOINC set to always run.
The first time I noticed it happening a couple of months ago, I just let it run to see if it would ever end. I gave up after 3 days. Every time I came back to the machine it would be at varying points between 0% and 50% and the time running would be a reasonable amount for the percentage shown and time remaning (total estimated time was a litte under 6 hours).

On the current one doing it, it was at 40 something percent and had been running for close to three hours. I came back 2 and a half hours later and it was back to 24% and had been running for 1 hour 54 minutes (this aplication originally started running about 8 hours prior (don't know how many restarts it did in that time.

I suspended it a few hours ago and let the next Rosetta Mini 3.45 app run (endo_aa_Pan910.run.8_SAVE_ALL_OUT_IGNORE_THE_REST_67722_969_0). It ran for 1:21:27 and ended with a computational error.

I'm going to resume the other other application and see what happens and keep track of the number of restarts.

Here's an update. It "seems" to be doing something different now. After resuming the restarting application around 3 hours ago I came back to check it. The Elapsed time is moving up (now at 4 hours 20 minutes) and the remaning estimate is counting down (now at 2 hours 16 minutes) BUT the Progress isn't changing. It's still at 24.741% where is was when I resumed it. I'll check back in 2 and a half hours when it's estimated to be finished and see where it is then.

Okay, watched the time remaning estimate count down to zero. it's now at ---. Elapsed time is still going up. Currently at 7 hours 51 minutes and climing. Status is running, high priority and progress is still stuck at 24.741%.

Well, it did restart. It's now at 34 minutes elapsed time. 5 hours 14 minutes remaning and 6.690% complete. All numbers are moving.
