It is definatly not the execute bit. The BOINC downloads the WU, The application starts to crunch (IE it runs), after 20-23 seconds the WU errors out, and it moves to the next WU. This behavior is 100% consistant. The errors would indicat that the application is looking for a file that does not exist, and it apperently can't create the file. There was a simular problem with CP@H and the fix was to build a dummy file tree with an empty file at the bottom for the App to find.

The problem here is that the error message does not give the entire path to the file it is looking for so there is no way to figure out what the system wants or is looking for. The same machine is running S@H, P@H, and CP@H. It is also registered and occasionally runs E@H. None of these other apps are having any problems. BOINC runs just fine as well. There seems to be some problem related to the BOINC 5.2.13 upgrade and the R@H app for the Mac G4 dual.

Regards
Phil

I do agree. I have run R@H by it self in BOINC and what is described above happens. However, when running seti@home, BOINC-manager crashes too - some times (3 times in 2 weeks). If I run P@H, S@H and R@H only R@H crashes ...
Now: S@H is having difficulties and I have stopped BOINC altogether to crunch an other project - until this is fixed. Then I will return the PowerMac to R@H ... until then I just use PCs.

BOINC is not crashing. I have not had a BOINC crash since installing 5.2.8. The only issue is with R@H. All the WU error out. All the other applications arte running just fine. Now I am not running the standard S@H so that might be helping a bit. THere is an altivec enhansed version available for S@H that crunches a S@H WU in under 1.5 hours on a dual G4 1.4 MHz system. I am using it on all my systems and it is real solid as long as you get the rightone for the right CPU.

Phil

Thanks for that tip. I'll try it. From where did you down load the altiovec enhanced application?

BTW, I am back up with Rosetta@Home. I have increased the time between "write to the disk most every ..." to 16500 seconds and have had no crashes as yet (for the last 12 hours). I konw, this is a high risk endeavor (if anything goes wrong I loose it all) but better than really loosing it all due to errors. :) Does this help in the error searching?

You can read about the Mac Altivec Seti Application here, and Download it from here. I do not know how this might compare to the new "official" version of the application in terms of time to crunch a WU, but on a Mac dual G4 a typical WU takes about 1 hour 20 min., When this App was compiled a few months ago, that was about 3 times faster than the official version. It does all the same science, it just makes better use of the Mac system architecture.
