I attend a small 2-year college with a moderate amount of computers. I am working on a proposal to run BOINC on those computers to make better use of them. One problem I ran into that I have not been able to find an answer for is this:

Our computers generally have a user log in using network authentication, they do their work, then they log off the network. Now I'm not too knowledgeable about networking, but I would assume that BOINC software cannot run if a user is not logged in. Is there a way to have it run on the computer regardless of whether or not someone is logged in?

BOINC can be installed as a service, which is what you will want to do both to allow it to run more hours each day then just when someone is logged on, and to sandbox what it has authorities to access.
