I set my account so that it would run the graphic as my screen saver. After just a day of this, I've noticed that there's three fuzzy bands running down my screen. I'm wondering if leaving the graphic on fried my screen, and whether it will come back or not. I have an HP f1503 flat screen monitor, which doesn't seem to have the old degaussing button of monitors of yore, and turning it on and off doesn't seem to help. |

Hi mothnflame, that is not the first time I heard of the f1503 or f1703 having lines on it and starting to flicker in areas or bands or even turn black totally. The 1703 was put under extended warranty for that (for some models at least), but the 1503 was not (to the disappointment of quite some people). Here is a forum where you might still find answers to your problem. If I remember correctly there is also a repair instruction somewhere. [EDIT] Here is the repair instruction, but it is for the 1703. The problem seems to be cold solder joints, so it is repairable, either by yourself, HP or maybe in a shop. Regards, Christoph |

Hi mothnflame, Christoph, Thanks for the information. But from what I read, these people had their whole screen go black. For me it is just 3 narrow bands, running from top to bottom, that are now fuzzy, like my eyes aren't quite in focus. Carol |

Hi Carol, yes, for that discussion that is right. But you will find a few places outlining your special problem too, like this text: "I got this monitor for Christmas and it has lines running throught and real faint color changes. When you move the cursor or look closely you can see flickering lines throughout the display. My wife got this from Circuit City so I'll be taking it back when it opens. I tried all of the settings, installed the driver, etc. and no help. It only got worse the longer it was on. I am taking the computer to my brother's to see if his monitor works on it. Hopefully its the monitor and not the computer. It looked nice coming out of the box until I turned it on." Taken from here. So it looks like the sloppy manufacture of that series gives rise to different problems with image quality, some of them arising immediately, some after longer use. Regards, Christoph |
