I just installed the BOINC software for the first time. It's the latest revision (version 5.2.13). I haven't changed any of the defaults. Unfortunately, it's just not working right. This has done this for two days in a row, so I doubt it's an outage. I'm wondering if it's a proxy issue, or if there's something I'm not doing right. The FAQ doesn't seem to address this particular issue.

Here's the log:

It looks like you have detached from the project. You might want to try attaching again and let the computer run for a while. It will hit the server until it connects and gets some Work units by itself, you do not have to update or reset to get data unless there is something wrong. But it can take a while before it gets work. If you get a lot of type 500 errors over a period of time then I would begin to think you had a problem.

it is becoming increasingly apparent we will not find any on our own.

Message 14092 - Posted: 18 Apr 2006, 22:56:37 UTC - in response to Message 13211.

I have exactly the same problem with the same exact messages. I am connecting through a proxy but the evidently the connection is successful since BOINC was able to 'download the master file'. I am using version 5.2.13 which I first installed about two weeks ago. I have removed the application, rebooted, removed the installation directory, and reinstalled it several times to try to fix this. This feels like a bug.

In case anyone else gets this, here's how I fixed it.

I had to fill out everything under Advanced-->Options-->HTTP Proxy. Remember that you'll need to reread config after you make changes, and if your pwd changes, then modify this accordingly.

Also, I had to modify cc_config.xml to include <force_auth>ntlm</force_auth> under the <options> section.

This might not work in all cases, but I hope that it proves to be useful for someone out there.
