1) Message boards : Number crunching : New NVIDIA compiler lets developers offload math functions to GPU (Message 37029)

"GPU computing with CUDA technology is an innovative combination of computing features in next generation NVIDIA GPUs that are accessed through the standard ‘C’ language. Where previous generation GPUs were based on “streaming shader programs”, CUDA programmers use ‘C’ to create programs called kernels that use many threads to operate on large quantities of data in parallel. In contrast to multi-core CPUs, where only a few threads execute at the same time, NVIDIA GPUs featuring CUDA technology process thousands of threads simultaneously enabling high computational throughput across large amounts of data."

This is good to hear. Maybe someday BOINC will be coded to allow the use of CPUs AND GPUs. The GeForce 8800 cards and the new ATI R600 cards launching in March have a lot of processing power.

Protein folding is, in theory, one of the things a quantum computer should be able to do well (and exponentially / quadratically faster). Think about where we were 10 years ago, where we are now... can't wait to see what kind of processing power will be available in another 10 =)

thanks for catching this! it should be fixed now.

That was fast =) Especially for a late night at the office!

Granted credit is displaying the same value as claimed credit, suggesting the default BOINC credit system got put back in place.

It seems that with tonight's tweaking the default Boinc credit system is back in place. Granted credit=claimed credit, and is based on reported FLOPS. A short-term mistake while the team settles things down, I hope.
6) Message boards : Number crunching : Report problems with Rosetta version 5.34 (Message 30065)

Post:
After 5.32 started causing one of my PCs to 100% error out, I tried re-installing BOINC and Rosetta. However, this continued, even through 5.34. I noticed a valid WU slip through when I was using my computer, which led me to disable the screen saver. Ever since then it's been back to normal. Anyone having a 100% error out rate should change their screen saver to something else to try their luck.

I am getting so many timeout errors (shows up as validation error) and computing errors that my machine is wasting half or more of its time on failed WUs. This seemed to start only with the new Rosetta 5.32

I'm running stock BOINC 5.4.11 and my PC is at stock speeds. I'm stumped and frustrated =/

If you build it, they will come, with or without Sony pushing it. Got to hand it to F@H, this is a big and very cool step for distributed computing. The Cell processor took ~$400 million to research and develop between Sony/IBM/Toshiba, it might as well get used for something useful =)

Every other work unit I have done averages about 30 credit on that machine, for the same amount of time
