Thanks Tim,

It appears to have at somepoint, resumed the allready started tasks, so it looks like everything is ok now, thanks a lot though :)

i forgot to add the answer lol sorry

It is version 7.4.42 (x64)

And the problem is on my litle netbook, a duel core celery *celeron* netbook, with 4gb ddr3

The problem does not happen on my Xeon x3360 also with only 4gb ram, which is turned off quite a lot, due to it not being particularly energy efficient

I suspect it may be something to do with my preferances?

Both machines are running windoze 8.1 *windows lol*

Any help, or info at all will be gladly looked at and used :)

Thank you all :)

Hi all, i posted this post, in the wrong forum , and was advised to ask here, as the forum i used, is not so popular :)

here is my original post :) ------------------------------

Message 78384 - Posted 30 Jun 2015 16:20:22 UTC

Hi all, I have been running rosetta@home, on and off for about 10 years, but i am one of those quiet users, who does not really get involved in the group so much, so i know fairly little i suppose.

I was just wondering, about my task list, today i noticed that two tasks are partially complete, but, boinc has started 2 other tasks, further down the list, once i have re started this little machine?

I find it quite highly annoying, as i would like it to work , in order, and when , if i turn this machine off, it should start up the allready started tasks once boinc starts up again

Could anyone instruct me, how to "make" it resume those tasks, and not start new ones, for no reason that i can see myself?

Thank you for your reading this, and i hope my wording is not abrasive, i have high functioning asbergers *ASD*, so when i am frustrated, my urgancy can look a little agressive, i truely do not wish to be agressive in any fashion :)

HERE IS THE REPLY :) -----------------------------------

Mod.Sense - I recall an issue like that a few years ago. What version of BOINC Manager are you running? I believe newer versions improved the odds of tasks running nicely in order.

One case where it still may not is when memory is limited. If the active tasks exceeds the memory preference, sometimes BOINC Manager fires up a different task in hopes that it may be able to run in less memory. Since BOINC Manager already knows how much memory the first task desired to have available, it might bypass it if it doesn't have enough memory available to activate it.

If you would like to discuss it further, the Number Crunching board is generally where such topics are discussed. It gets much more views than the Q&A area of the boards

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So i imagine it may be perhaps due to my preferances, which i set up, i cannot remember when exactly but, it may be because of my settings?

Any help will be gladly appreciated, thank you so much for reading

Thank you ModSense, for your answer :)

The version is 7.4.42 , and its running on a little lenovo duel core celeron netbook with 4 gb ddr3 *i need to watch how much electricity i use and it is very good for the power consumption*
Also have it on my old xeon x3360 with 4gb ram also, on that machine which has the same amount of memory, it seems to do the tasks in order, and that machine is turned off quite a lot of the time

I will go to the crunching forum, and also i think i may need to change my preferances, it may be something i have done "wrong" in there, thank you again, your answer was excelent, much appreciated

6) Message boards : Number crunching : which cpu´s are you using for rosetta? (Message 78350)

:) I'm just using these on boinc ATM, and i only just started crunching again :)

GenuineIntel
Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU X3360 @ 2.83GHz [Family 6 Model 23 Stepping 10]

GenuineIntel
Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU N2840 @ 2.16GHz [Family 6 Model 55 Stepping 8]

The "celery" is a netbook :)

i also keep having this error, most displeasing that with the kind of minds working on these projects, that they cannot run smoothly

Thinking of leaving rosetta, in fact boinc totally, for there is no other worthy project in my opinion

Which is rather sad after years of use
8) Message boards : Number crunching : non gui version? *sorry if this has been covered* (Message 65722)

SETI had an "optimized client". With Rosetta@home the source is not available, so everyone uses the client application provided by the project. Not using the screensaver, and no leaving the graphics displayed when you aren't looking at them would be the main things. The best way to double the resource committed to Rosetta is to recruit a friend to begin crunching too.

I am quite amazed i didnt think of "pimping" rosetta more.... :) obviosly most of my family use boinc in some project of their choice...mainly rosetta ...just down to the medicinal qualities of it, but thank you for the answer :)

Hi ll, i have been using rosetta for quite a while now...im just a WU person, i dont follow much of the science behind it, although i have reasonable intelligence i have little scientific knowledge, i just let a few machines crunch and am happy the cpu cycles are used for something :)

And that is why i am here.... i remember back when i was using SETI...before the move to using the boinc software , and they had a non graphical....command line version of seti...which would use more cpu speed. At least thats how i remember it.....and i was wondering if there is a way to crunch harder.
One or two of the machines i use boinc on are basically sitting virtually idle for a fair amount of time and it would be nice to crank boinc/rosetta up a bit.
But none of them are ....anything special at all, none of them are gaming machines using extremly fast gfx cards

Anyhow i looked through the stickies didnt see anything i recognised as a post of "speeding up boinc" or such, and just wondered if someone could point me in the right direction if at all possible , thank you for reading and hope for a reply

thank you all, i will look around , and thank you to the admin / mod for moving my post lol, i posted it...and then looked around the forum and noticed a more appropriate place to put my question! as you can see i dont post often at all and my knowledge of the structure of the forums is very small, all i know is folding protein structures may help in the finding of ... ways in which we can maybe prevent / cure some very nasty ailments , and it costs me £0 , and also means my machine is no longer wasting cycles, so its a 100% win win situation

Curiosity killed the cat they say, but also this curiosity made the cat one of the most adept hunters on the planet.... :)

hiya all! .. i do not use the forums a lot, a silent cruncher i suppose i am, but if possible i would like to aquire some advice?!

I made a new machine, amd athlon x2 5000+ black edition, 2gb dd2 duel core 800mhz, sata2 hd ect...so of course i want to donate as many spare cycles as possible on my machine...
I have only the 32 bit version of vista ultimate, which is ok for me but im still a little newb on vista, and it has one function i really do not get along with

Windows defender, the software explorer part, BOINC is automatically blocked and need to "run blocked software" option upon every boot of my machine, i have searched around win defender and the software manager section of it, and, i LOATH this *big brother* type method of the software , it is my machine why am i unable to set BOINC to be non blocked/allowed lol! How do you do this, there seems to be no option anywhere in win defender to allow this software to run without any ofthis "run blocked software"

any help will be gladly appreciated *nice grin*

i have been to the MS site, it tells me to "allways allow this software" the option does not exist neither does the menu or tab it tells me to use, very frustrating, im sorry everyone but i can no longer donate my cycles willingly because the big MS brother deems it so and i seem not to have the authority upon my own machine to do as i wish
if only i could run xp on this machine, and yes i have been to every source of any menu to do with anything to do with it ..lol

WOW conan way to go!!! you have done 10x the work i have in the same time span!

woohoo i have finally passed 51,214 credits, but now ive done this many......im starting to want to learn about the science behind all this, im not just here for "credit" im here to do what we are all here to do...and that is to help along the path to finding or trying to find benificial facts and possible cures to some major ailments.......but i feel like a blind mouse following the next blind mouse by touch alone.......anyone who reads this and feels they have the time to explain anything....or show me a link to the beginnings of understanding the things that we do.....feel free to email me at my listed email adress..... gothfreako666@yahoo.co.uk, i will be looking around the rosetta site.....but the information may be a little to in depth for me to be able to understand straight away!

keep up the good work everyone

thank you all for your ideas and input......i will be dedicating just a single machine to crunching, that is the celery 2.2 machine with 768 mb ram, i may also be getting rid of some bloatware on the other one the athlon machine, and thank you ricardo for the links...i will read them now! those sites are good...i like the one telling you the services and their application names....i allways stop alg...once i actually got rid of it by deleting it from the registry...but ive never tried it with other services...

hello people, this question to some will be simple to answer...there may be a supirior operating system for my machine to use to crunch data for rosetta.....but i do not know it! i dont have any experience with any linux.....i will try it soon but...which version of windows would anybody reccomend? the machines i have working on rosetta are just ..one celeron 2200 with 768 mb of 400 fsb ddr, one Athlon64 3400 with 512 400fsb of ddr and a laptop that i only use infrequently which is also a celeron a 2.4 with only the 256mb of ram....i will not play with the laptop lol

thank you in advance for reading this

as i only have these machines on boinc/rosetta.....i could do with making it all run that fraction faster, with my MIGHTY rac of around 300 lol i would like to crank it up a bit!

(forgot to add im using XP at the moment - this information may be usefull!)
