1) Message boards : Rosetta@home Science : Not clear what these 8 hour stints are. (Message 10916)

ummm - where does the "science" stand on this? I used to download one unit, run to completion, download another. Is it the case that I could have saved hours of processing time by just killing the unit? What drove this timeout decision? Give us a clue.......

The deadlines should be set to suit the project scientists only. Rosetta are not doing this for us, we are providing resources for them. If the workload is unsuitable for a machine's circumstances, then that machine is unsuited to the project. I'm sorry if that sounds callous or harsh but it is unfortunately the truth.
3) Message boards : Number crunching : BOINC over a cluster (Message 9697)

Rather than look into a HOW-TO, just download a preconfigued Linux distro designed for this. I use K12LTSP from K12LTSP.org and it runs diskless nodes fine on BOINC projects right out of the box.

Configuration help can be found at my team's site http://forums.teamphoenixrising.net

This is a bit off topic, but for some reason when Rosetta is running my CPU load is not 100% as I expect it to be because Seti@home uses all the CPU. Is this normal, or have I set something wrong in preference? I have both Seti and Rosetta attached. When Seti runs the CPU load is 100%; when Rosetta runs it's near 0%.

Thanks for any help.

I have this occasionally too. I just aborted a unit which was sat at status "running" and CPU had been idling for at least an hour. Nothing of note in the output files to explain why, and no R@H tasks running. It was as if the task just disappeared but BOINC manager thought it was active.

When/if it happens again I'll take better notes and copy files etc.
